Oily Hair: Causes and Remedies

Tips to Help You Provide Better Care for Greasy Hair

Natty Adam
Greasy hair is a problem that has to be addressed with responsibility and requires serious efforts to be taken care of, as it could indicate a health problem. Often, greasy hair is due to hormonal fluctuations: in women who take birth control pills and in men who use hormonal preparations to increase body mass. However, often hair gets oily because of the scalp dryness: the glands produce more oil to keep the scalp in good condition.

Also, hair can become oily due to stress: try to avoid any stressful situations, learn to keep your emotions under control, learn relaxing techniques and use them to maintain your emotional balance.

Oily hair usually looks dirty, flatten and unattractive. Use these tips to improve hair wellness.

Washing and conditioning. Wash your hair as often as it needs (you may wash it every day), as oil in your hair collects dirt very fast. If you have oily hair, choosing the right shampoo is very important: look for products labeled "for greasy hair" or "clarifying", these products often have a pH slightly more alkaline than products for normal hair, therefore they will remove the oil easier. Use conditioners or nutritive serums only on the ends if you feel they're dry, but applying these hair care products on the roots will only worsen the situation. Avoid products labeled "2 in 1". Also, use warm water when washing oily hair, as heat increases the production of oil by the glands of the scalp.

Keep in mind that frequent combing and brushing makes the oil move from the scalp to the ends of the hair, so it loses its shine and freshness faster; also, try not to touch your hair often during the day.

Apart from using special hair care products, you may want to try several very popular home remedies, which are known to enhance oily hair. Best home remedies include rinsing with solutions of diluted vinegar, alcohol, lemon juice, tea and beer. Remember to wash it off after you rinse your hair with it. Oily hair can also be treated and invigorated by applying a carrot puree or a cucumber puree for 15 min before hair washing.

These are simple, yet effective and affordable solutions which will have great effects if used regularly, and save you time and money, as well.
