OJ Simpson's Book...... Will You Buy It?

Will you buy OJ Simpson's book, If I Did It? It is available today if you want to buy it. It is supposed to be a hypothetical accounting of the murders of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. The details are said to be graphic and chilling. Some say there are details in the accounting that only the real killer could know about. But OJ Simpson claims he wrote the book back in 2006 as a hypothetical scenario of how he would have committed the murders IF he had indeed done them.

But why even write such a book at all? This would not seem to be something that anyone would think of doing that had any conscious at all. Since OJ was acquitted back in 1994 of the double murders, he seems to always find his way back into the eyes of the media. Wouldn't one be more inclined to stay as far out of the public scrutiny as possible in that kind of situation? Would he not want to protect his, and Nicole Simpson's children from reliving the horror of that night? Apparently OJ Simpson did not, on both counts.

But his plans to publish the book, If I Did It, were brought to an abrupt halt when the public outcry over the impending book was overwhelming. Nicole Brown's Family and Ron Goldman's Family were outraged that OJ Simpson would financially gain from writing such a book. The publisher changed her mind, and refused to publish the "hypothetical" accounting of the double murders.

And that was thought to be that. But it was not over after all. The Goldman Family has long awaited money from OJ Simpson for a civil suit brought against him for the murder of their son, Ron Goldman. The family went to court and was given the rights to OJ Simpson's unpublished book, If I Did It. And now they have succeeded in having it published.

The title remains the same, however the word, "If", is set in very light gray print, and it is within the Word "I", which is in large red letters. The Goldman family has a forward in the book stating their feelings re: the murders and Simpson.

So, will you buy the book? I am sure many will out of sheer human curiosity. Just as I am sure many will not out of sheer disgust that it was ever written. But I think a curious element has now been added to the mix. What about the Goldman family? Why would they now want this book published? What will public opinion of the Goldman family be now, and how will that affect book sales? People may debate about the money issue.....why is it now ok in the minds of the Goldman family to have this horrible event relived in the minds of the families and children of the murder victims? Did money make it ok all of a sudden? Or does the Goldman family hope that people will read it and become even more convinced, if they were at all to begin with, that OJ Simpson did in fact kill Nicole and Ron? I don't suppose we will really know their motivation. But I am curious to see how the Goldman family's decision to publish OJ Simpson's Book will strike public accord. I guess we will wait and see.

Will you buy it?

"If I Did It" is the most important book I ever read. For an extensive review see http://www.countermovement.net

I was never convinced that he was guilty, becuase it does not fit the profile of domestic violence and abuse, to plot death; it is usually done in a fit of rage. Watching some of the trial on TV, like the blood on his sock, did not convince me "beyond a shadow of doubt" of his guilt. Reading how he would have done it, might give me more insight to his psyche and convince me that he was indeed, guilty. If he were indeed innocent and knew who the drug executioners were and could not reveal their identity due to threats that if he did they would kill his children, I could imagine him becoming obbsessed. I think he is broke too and was counting on making money through the public's lust for gore.

Dunno, I generally no longer buy books unless the library does not have them. If they do not and it is a must read, I buy it, read it and donate it to the library. Yes, I would like to read his book. Drug use is rampant in California and I often get to converse with users and sometimes dealers. If anyone mentions OJ, they all agree that the murders were drug related executions; something about a "necktie" style of murder. Because of what I read the book title was highlighted so it would appear a confession.
