OJ Simpson's If I Did It, the Book that Just Won't Go Away

The Cancelled Book Has Now Found a Home on Craigslist

If you are anything like me, you heard about the television special and upcoming release of O.J. Simpson's If I Did It and you wondered why would anyone pay for this? Has not the American public suffered enough between watching the trial, reading the gruesome tabloids, and seeing book after book come out about Nicole Brown Simpson, jurors in the trial, and O.J. Simpson himself. Granted, none of these books were written by O.J. Simpson, himself, detailing the murder, but I personally could live a thousand years and never have to hear again about O.J. Simpson and his alleged association with the murder of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman.

When the If I Did It O.J. Simpson interview was cancelled last November because of public outrage, I assumed that this would be the end of the matter. I remember news reporters and talk show hosts proclaiming that the public had won and that no one wanted to see this material either in video or in print. Even Rupert Murdoch, the Chairman and CEO of NewsCorp, stated that this was an "ill-considered project" in his press release on November 20, 2006 (see resource links).

Even with the public backlash and numerous apologies offered by Fox Television and Harper Collins Regan Book executives, this book just won't go away. While, officially, O.J. Simpson's book If I Did It will never be released, copies are now floating around the internet for sale.

Recently, while searching online for used books, I came across several listings on Craigslist.com for copies of If I Did It. Not one. Several. Should you wish to read about O.J. Simpson's fictitious killing of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman, be prepared to pay about $400-$500. And don't expect the price to go down soon.

While I understand the motivation of publishing company employees and reviewers wanting to get rid of advanced copies of this book, I think enough is enough. I don't want to know about what O.J. Simpson thinks of Nicole Brown Simpson and Ronald Goldman. I don't want to know if he did it. I don't want to know how he did it. What I do want is for the American public to heal from the wounds of this murder and its subsequent trial. And there is no way that we can do this if the media and unscrupulous people keep trying to profit from it.

  • Both Harper Collins and Fox Television cancelled production on the tv special and book by O.J. Simpson.
  • While public outrage stopped the release of this book, it is still available for sale on craigslist.com.
  • These semi-unauthorized copies are available for around $400-$500.
According to Wikipedia, the book claims that O.J. Simpson would not have even commited the murder himself, but have given the task to someone else while he watched.

Wonderful article. I'm with you; this should all go away. It's terrible that he is trying to profit from this, even if he didn't do it. It really shows his true colors.

Why did you write about OJ's book being available online if you are so sick for hearing about it? JW, not trying to be rude...

It definately seems slightly suspicious that the copies are now available on the internet. I'm wondering exactly who is selling them and what DID the publisher do with all of those copies that never went to bookstores? Do they recycle or destroy them or are they saved for a later date? Hmmmm...

Makes you wonder if that was all set up in order to bootleg copies for more profit. Venus, this was a pleasure to read..clear, concise and well stated. Thank you!
