Ok, so You're Ready to Start Selling Online

Selling online, what do you want to know? So you have heard that someone's been selling things online and doing quite well. So you have decided this is a great idea, so you go sign up on eBay.

After all everyone knows you can make a fortune on eBay, and some people are doing it selling trash, or even ghosts in a bottle. At least that is what you've heard, and from some very reliable resources, such as the news reporters on television or on the radio and online, plus your friend told you that their neighbors cousin emptied out the garage and made a nice hefty thirty-thousand dollars.

Since you've been running low on cash, and your unemployment ran out months ago, you decide to give this a try. I mean it can't hurt right. So you take your last remaining dollars and begin listing items on eBay for sale, expecting to make a million any second now.

Ha, things don't work quite like that. Those making money are those who actually know a little more about what they are doing than perhaps they are telling. Or maybe they are just really good at selling things online, or they could have read the directions that you can find, on eBay's website, and then went and told all their friends online, and offline that they were listing things for sale online.

When selling on eBay something that you will want to remember is to take plenty of good pictures, posting only the best. Then you will want to have good clear descriptions so people can see and hear exactly what it is you are selling.

Creativity is a good thing when selling online, you want to use descriptive words, and you want to be clear. You also want to list your product in as many different categories as possible. The reason you want to list in as many categories as possible is so you will attract more people that could possibly be looking for what you are selling.

Also if you are selling multiple items, you may find it helpful to put links to your other items. Doing this for each item is time consuming, and may require more fees, but it could prove more profitable for you, because you will have more chance of someone seeing another item you may be selling that is in a completely different category.

Next you after you've got your listings, and listing fees all set up, you will want to advertise, don't take it for granted that someone will find everything your selling. Go to your Facebook page and tell all your friends you've listed some things on eBay. Go to all your social networks and let everyone know, so perhaps someone will go on over to your eBay pages and buy something.

If you have a blog then write about the products you're selling on eBay, and put a direct link to what you're selling.

Don't be shy, being shy is not going to help you win any sales, you need to be out telling everyone that you've got something to sell. Just because the first thousand people you tell may not want what you're selling, as they can't see the true benefit of your product, does not mean the next ten thousand people won't want your product. So don't give up easy.

If you have something worth selling, someone will be willing to buy sooner or later. But you've got to advertise, advertise, advertise, and advertise. Also whenever you make a sale remember to be courteous to all of your customers. Quality service and speedy service will help your customers remember you. Also encourage your customers to direct other potential customers to you.

You may find you do well with online sales either through eBay, ebid, or any number of other auction sites. Also if you happen to make crafts then you may find you can do well on a site like etsy.com. Etsy.com is a site especially for those who make crafts, of nearly any kind. This site has a forum where you can talk with other crafters, and also has a special area where people can post ads for items they are looking to buy. Instead of selling a product on that one section you make a bid to make an item for someone, within a given price range. The price range is set by the customer.

This can help you to make sales that you may not have otherwise made. Doing quality work for someone who asks for someone to make something for them, will help you to retain your customer, and may also lead to more customers, so whenever you accept a job, make sure that you do your very best.

Doing your very best will help you to make a good name for yourself, and your particular crafts. Also the better the quality of your work the more you can reasonably charge for what you make. After all a well-made product is worth the extra cost, making your products to last will help you have a good name with your customers. This is something that you especially want, if you plan to sell high end merchandise.

People may be willing to part with a dollar for something that isn't of exceptional quality, but you'll find it difficult to sell the same product for a thousand dollars when the quality is not there. Remember there is a difference between cheap handcrafted jewelry and well-made craftsman quality jewelry.

Selling online, may be a great idea for you. But you'll need products and you'll need a good camera so you can post pictures of what you're selling. You'll also want to remember to use clarity in your descriptions. Also after you've listed your items for sale, it may be a good idea to go ahead and package your item to sell. Just remember to place a note on the package of what the item is, and put it where you can find it. On shelves in a storage room, might be a good place; just keep a record of where you place each item.

If selling is your game, you may find selling online a dream come true, you can reach more people faster. You may even run out of things to sell, well maybe not, there's too much available, if nothing else go outside and pick up some pinecones and sell those.

But while selling online may be a dream come true for one person it can be a nightmare for someone else. Because while you've decided that selling online is just what you want to do, so have a whole lot of other people. Every day someone is opening up a store online to sell something to someone. The choices of online stores are practically unlimited. There is a store for practically anything you can think of. Even things you may never have thought of. But someone did, and someone else decided it was good enough to buy. So the store stayed in business. Much like the brick and mortar store that may be down the road from you.

If you're planning to sell products online, whether it's eBay, ebid, etsy.com or some other site, you may not want to use your last few dollars to get started, because it could take you a while to start making sales especially if you do not already have a fairly large presence online.

It is best in my personal opinion to start with what you can afford to lose. Because you may not make any sales, the first few times that you list your products online. There is practically nothing more discouraging than to take the last few dollars you have in your bank account to list items to sell then sell nothing. Especially if you were counting on that money to pay your rent or power bill, you could do very well your first time out, but then again, don't count your chickens before they hatch.

There are fifty million other people more or less who are also trying to sell something online so they can pay their bills so you'll need to expect this endeavor to take a little time, effort, and patience.
