Wilson, OK - On Friday, May 1, District 14 State Senator Johnnie Crutchfield donated $5,000 to the Wilson Boys & Girls Club for the purchase of ten desktop PCs. As a former student in Wilson, Senator Crutchfield recalled sometimes waiting days for a particular volume from one of the only two available World Book encyclopedia sets to complete a research project for class. Fortunately for Senator Crutchfield, that was twice as many as most students. In addition to the school library's set, a young Johnnie Carl Crutchfield had access to Dr. Cockrell's encyclopedias through his classmate, Bill Cockrell.

After recently becoming aware that the local Boys & Girls Club had only four outdated PCs available to their residents and the community at their Teen Town facility, Senator Crutchfield felt compelled to contribute $5,000 to the non-profit organization for updating their computer workstations. In addition to purchasing the ten PCs, the contribution enabled Boys & Girls Club Executive Director Misty Sanders, Ardmore, to purchase a wireless modem with roughly $500 left for the purchase of educational and career training software.

Two sisters, Renae and Rachel Pipes are members of the Wilson Boys & Girls Club. Formerly from Clovis, NM, Renae (freshman) and Rachel (senior) utilize the PC workstations almost daily. Rachel plans to attend Murray State College in the fall to begin her formal education towards becoming a flight nurse. Senator Crutchfield encouraged both sisters to continue pursuing their education and informed Rachel that the State of Oklahoma is anticipated to have a nursing shortage of over 3,000 nurses within the next ten years.
