It may or may not have been clear to my readers that my previous post "Oops, Twitter is Missing Something!" was not about the lack of email notifications but in actuality was lamenting that the email notifications themselves were missing something.
It used to be very easy when glancing at your notifications from Twitter, to discern whether or not your already followed your new follower. The newer design of the Twitter email notifications did not have the same appearance as the old and therefore made me think that they no longer allowed you to see if you followed that person until you viewed their profile page. As it turns out, upon some closer examination and comparisons, the newest Twitter emails do indeed have a difference, it's just not as obvious as it was before.
At the bottom of all your "New Follower" email notifications from Twitter there is fine print which reads as follows:
"If you'd rather not receive follow notification emails from Twitter, you can unsubscribe immediately. To resubscribe or change other Twitter email preferences, visit your account settings to manage email notifications. Please do not reply to this message; it was sent from an unmonitored email address. This message is a service email related to your use of Twitter. For general inquiries or to request support with your Twitter account, please visit us at Twitter Support."
If you do not already follow your new Twitter fan there will be an additional line of text inserted before the above paragraph and printed in a slightly bolder font:
"If you believe [your new follower] is engaging in abusive behavior on Twitter, you may report [your new follower] for spam."
That's it folks! Now you don't have to click every "View [your new follower]'s profile" link to figure out if you already follow that person. Yay! Precious time out of our day is saved and can now be used toward more fruitful endeavors -- such as online writing!
