Okay, so It's Spring

Thomas Cleveland Lane
Don't expect too much of spring.
It brings relief from winter's bite,
and that's a welcome thing.
Its best days bring us warmth and light;
a reason we might sing.

But spring has always been a time
for warfare to renew,
after winter's frigid clime
had made the battles few.
Now soldiers fight in mud and grime.

The gravely ill and nearly dying
don't get a break from death,
just because the leaves are trying
to catch their first warm breath.
Sometimes these are days for crying.

But if we keep that all in mind,
this season, we'll appreciate.
Perhaps the spring will help us find,
in its balmy days, not hate,
but inspiration to be kind.
