Oktoberfest: Munich, Germany

Drink up my friends. It is that time of year again. It is Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Speaking from experience, there is nothing quite like being a part of the unique festival drinking environment of the celebration of Oktoberfest in Munich, Germany. Other places in the world try to compete, but it really is not the same. There is only one real Oktoberfest, and that is the one in Munich, Germany.

What it is

In simple terms, Oktoberfest is known as the hugest beer festival in the world. Lots of people come together and drink beer together. This celebration takes place in Munich, Germany every year. It usually starts late September and ends in early October. People come from all over the world to enjoy the famous brew.

History

October 12, 1810 was the first Oktoberfest. It happened in celebration of a marriage. This was the marriage between Princess Therese of Sachsen-Hildburghausen and Prince Ludwig of Bavaria. Everyone in Munich, Germany came together to celebrate. It was called Oktoberfest, and each year after there was another celebration. It just became an annual event and it still lives on today.

Tents

Big tents are set up in the town to help celebrate Oktoberfest. In these tents you will find various things. First of all you will find beer. Yes, lots and lots of beer will be everywhere you look. If you are a beer lover then this is the place for you. Plus, usually there is food. For example, there are usually sausages.

Cost

The cost of going to Oktoberfest varies. It all depends on how you get there, your accommodations, and all those sorts of things. However, usually getting into Oktoberfest itself costs nothing. You can walk around for free. There is no entrance fee. However, beer does cost money. So, if you want to go for the beer, make sure you have plenty of money on you.

My Experience

If you like beer, there is nothing cooler than drinking beer out of a huge German beer stein. The party like atmosphere was very infectious. Plus, the music was loud and fun. I had tons of fun on the bumper cars that were part of the amusement park rides that were there at the time. It is not just the beer that is fun at Oktoberfest; it is the whole experience.
