Oktoberfest is traditionally held in September, so whether your local Oktoberfest takes place in September or October, make sure you don't miss it this year. Check out one of these 14 fabulous fests taking place in the southeast.

Alabama

Free the Hops, Birmingham

Sept. 19

This might be the only Oktoberfest with a Round One for early-bird drinkers and a Round Two for the night-owls. The Free the Hops afternoon session runs from noon until 4 p.m. The night session goes from 6 p.m. until 10 p.m. $15 will get you in the door with a souvenir glass in your hand. Refill your glass for $3 as many times as you'd like while you get down to German music and food. Food and soft drinks are free for the designated drivers. And you must be 21 to get in.

Cullman Oktoberfest, Cullman

Oct. 3 through 10

Special events throughout the city include the Miss Oktoberfest competition (it's not really a pageant, it's more like a cupcake tasting event), a 5k run, tennis tournament, bratwurst eating contest and more. I heard a rumor that this fest doesn't serve any beer. Oktoberfest without beer?

This is Florida's largest Oktoberfest. Laugh, sing and dance and participate in the six days worth of games and entertainment. $6 per person, children under 12 free.

This is not the fest for those who prefer wine of cocktails. Charlotte Oktoberfesters are serious about their beer drinking. For the $35 admission, you get a complimentary 5 oz. glass that you can refill for free all day long. With over 100 breweries represented pouring 350 different types of beer, you're bound to find your favorite. Tickets are $20 for designated drivers. Ages 21 and over.

In 1810, the first Oktoberfest was observed to honor Crown Prince Ludwig of Munich's engagement. For two weeks before the wedding the people of Munich celebrated with music, laughter and good times in honor of the royal wedding.
