Old Almost Forgotten Tale

A Shaman's Words

The shaman Malif sighed and braided his long white hair, tucking it behind his ears as he sat upon a rock, he eyed the little children gathered around him, a story, they had come for a story,

He closed his old, weary eyes and let the memories flow to him.

He remembered the times long forgotten by the people of his tribe, he saw through the eyes of his ancestors, it was one of his special powers to see into the past. He let the memories flow to him, and he understood, for now it was as if he himself had been there.
He closed his eyes and described exactly what he was seeing to the children.

He remembered how the earth was in the past, when the forests were almost never-ending, the green was of such that you could actually feel life in the colour, if you looked closely you could almost see life flowing out of the earth and into the trees.

He told them of the skies and how it was never this clear in the past, instead the world was covered with a mist hiding the intense heat of the sun, and with this mist there was a perpetual rain, a faint rain that always fell, the droplets were soo small that you could not see it and barely felt it, this rain kept the earth soft and fresh. He told of how they did not have a language in the past but instead we spoke through each other through our emotions and through our minds, the only sound that ever came out of their mouth was laughter.

So he described what he saw, living the memories himself, feeling the joy of living in such a time, it was true freedom for him.
He paused and opened his eyes and looked at the children.

He gave them a sad smile for he was pained that they had to grow up in this harsh world.

one of the little ones spoke up, "father" he said, the Old shaman looked in the direction of the voice, it had come from a boy around 10 seasons old, his was slender and had long brown hair reaching to his waist, his eyes were dark and full of intelligence. "yes?" the shaman asked, "what caused the earth to change?" asked the boy.

The shaman sighed again "the wars" he said, "ahh yes the wars," and then he closed his eyes once again.

The memories came again, He told how one night a second moon suddenly appeared in the sky and out of this moon came the Annauki,
They came down to the earth and told them that they were gods and we should worship them. But our people were confused, how could this be? We knew that they could not be any gods because our only god was the earth, we came from the earth and all life flowed out of the earth, they had come from the heavens they could not be god, and they were not of this earth for they had come from above.
what were they telling us??? life came from the earth so it should return to the earth that is why we buried our dead into the ground.

They could not be gods. So we refused to worship them, this ignited a great fury in their hearts.... if they had any. They removed our earth mist and for the first time we felt the raw heat of the sun, and like many of the tribal lords we have now, they used a tatic of divide and conquer, they thaught us language and claimed it a better way to communicate. but in truth they did this because the mouth could lie but the mind cannot. So now we spoke with the mouth and no longer the mind, they taught each tribe a different language and so we as one people became divided. They taught us everything how to destroy the forests to make houses to live in and so forth. they claimed they had liberated us and made us civilized, but they had in truth made us slaves, slaves to our wants, man became a greedy race now, hoarding wealth waring with his brothers.

I think they (the annauki) had done it because they saw us as surpassing them in the future, we used to be a spiritually strong people we our spiritual powers were growing fast, the earth was changing we had just begun to start vibrating faster and faster, our minds were expanding and this frightened them, so they came from the heavens and divided us and enslaved us. This is how we came to be like this.

"where are the Annauki now father??" and another little voice asked.

The shaman did not even bother to open his eyes, "They are still here little one," he replied, "they are hiding inside us"
you see the Annauki never lefth the earth they took our daughters and wives and made them full with their children, they told us that the children that they would bear would be our kings and chiefs to rule over us, because they now had 'royal' blood in them.
He remembered an old tribal saying, we have brought a child in from the cold and grown it as our own, yet it has grown up to be a snake only to bite us in return.

Malif was tired now, he got up and walked towards his hut, "father father!!" the little ones cried "tell us more!!" , "another time"
he replied "i am tired."

Another time indeed, he thought to himself. he was old and he doubted to himself he would last another season, at least some would remember the storie of the past and tell it to their children he thought again as he entered his hut.
