I am from picnics,
From parties, from plays,
I am from throwing eggs in the house.
(I was little, and Mom would get mad.)
I am from dandelion patches,
Like their seeds,
Tickled my nose when I blew on them.
I am from chocolate pies and dances,
From Georgia and Tennessee.
I am from stay-ups and sleep-ins,
From night-lights and tuck-ins.
I am from deep valleys,
With flowers in the meadow,
With sounds singing me to sleep.
I am from Fall Creek and Lakeshire,
Fried potatoes and scrambled eggs.
From my grandparent's pure hearts,
Overfilling with joy;
The excitement I brought them.
Under my bed are memories,
Who remind me every day about who I am.
And who fill me with emotions;
Happy, Sad, Angry, LOVE.
I am from all these moments in time;
From Icees and hugs,
To end a perfect day!

Post a CommentTerrific! Excellent structure, continuity, and content! It is wonderful to see a young poet who is not a slave to rhyme scheme! Her choice of words really evokes strong mental images and creates excellent thought texture! Love it! : )
lovely poem sorry it took me so long to find it very nicely done loved the lines "I am from dandelion patches, Like their seeds, Tickled my nose when I blew on them."
Wonderful read! I loved the Icee part, banana ones with Coke flavor mixed in. They never have banana and what is a blue raspberry? Wow, a budding poet and writer like her fath..uncle. ; ) -James
