Old Fashioned Ice Cream Recipe Memories

This is the Essence of Our Childhood - Frozen in Time!

One taste of this incredible ice cream and you are a kid again, back on the Rappahannock! Take a walk with me down memory lane to the river - two innocent kids "trolling (the fishing kind!)" up and down the river pretending to fish and laughing so loud that catching anything is next to impossible!

Close your eyes and remember your Grandmother's front porch at the river, we are taking turns turning the ice cream maker crank anticipating the taste of the peach ice cream. Think of the "crunch" of the barely frozen fresh picked peaches when the ice cream is ready! One taste of the ice cream from a local ice cream shop I visited recently and your memory will be flooded with moments from the Rappahannock!

Appropriately named "Ye Old Fashioned", this place is one of those "Mom & Pop" soda fountains that brings back childhood memories. Checkerboard tile floors, "funky" red vinyl stools and a counter serving a variety of sandwiches - and, most important, a wall of ice cream flavors and toppings!

These are not "fast food" sandwiches:

* A BLT with 10 slices of bacon

* A burger with real ground beef, a slice of cheese and ,of course, Duke's mayonnaise

* Egg salad that tastes like your Mom came by and made

* A grill cheese with 3 slices of bread, two slices of cheese, toasted with butter

Not on today's menu of "heart healthy foods', these sandwiches give you that feeling of "guilty pleasure" that you felt when you did exactly what your Mom told you not to!

These are only the "starters", the ice cream is the real star:

* Made from real cream and hand churned!

* Old fashioned flavors like double chocolate and creamy vanilla.

* Strawberry and peach with local, fresh produce never frozen!

* Real whip cream!

* Ice cream floats in all the flavors - even root beer!

Consistently voted the best ice cream in Charleston, Ye Old Fashioned has been reviewed in the Post and Courier newspaper many times. Letters of praise and rave reviews line the walls of the restaurant. Articles in both Time and Southern Living magazines celebrate the down home delicious flavor of the ice cream.

"ICE CREAM ESCAPE TO CHILDHOOD " is the best way to describe this experience! Don't mention the word "DIET"! Call me as soon as you get this - the peaches are in season and on Friday's the ice cream is two scoops for price of one. MY TREAT!!!!! Be ready for ice cream and memories - I'll pick you up at 4.
