Old Fashioned Strawberry Shortcake with Sweet Biscuits Recipe

Down south, it is not hard to find great food. Some of the best you will find are the recipes that were handed down from generation to generation. Old church cookbooks, grandma's recipe boxes, and jotted notes from years ago are treasures when they can be found. They contain some of the absolute best food you could wish for.

With strawberry season just around the corner, now is the time to start preparing for some delicious desserts. Just about everyone loves good 'ole strawberry shortcake, especially the ones made from scratch. Here is a scrumptious, good old-fashioned delight that is sure to have everyone begging you to tell them your secret.

Ingredients:

Filling

3 ½ pint of fresh strawberries
½ cup sugar

Sweet Biscuits

2 cups flour
¼ cup sugar
3 teaspoons baking powder
¼ teaspoon salt
1/3 cup sugar
1/3 cup butter
1 egg, beaten well
1 cup buttermilk or whole milk

Directions

1. Wash and slice strawberries.

2. Mix strawberries with sugar and set aside.

3. For biscuits: Mix all dry ingredients.

4. Fold in butter.

5. Add buttermilk and egg. Do not over blend.

6. Spoon biscuits on a baking dish.

7. Bake at 450 degrees until lightly golden. Make sure oven is very hot.

8. Half biscuits and place some strawberry mix in the middle.

This can be served warm. You may top with whip cream, white powdered sugar, and sliced strawberries for a nice garnish. Individual serving may also be made using simple cupcake baking dishes. These make a delectable dessert for any occasion.
