Brooklyn, NY 11201
United States of America
For instance, recently a lot of crucial talk has pivoted around the Old Fulton buildings at 11-15, as well as not-so-serious talk that's been dallied and bantered around by passersby. The Landmarks Preservation Committee, the Fulton Ferry Landing Association, the owners of the properties, and of course NY Department of Buildings, all of them have been fiercely debating the future of these historic buildings, which were built in the mid-1830s, even before the Brooklyn Bridge was built!
Fulton Ferry Landing Association suggests, perhaps rightly so, the owners are seeking to obtain a demolition order for the building by neglecting it to the elements-even leaving windows open and a plentifully leaking interior water pipe unrepaired.
The Preservation Committee wants to preserve the building, citing the row of Greek Revival brick buildings are clear reminders of early development in Brooklyn, and that they greatly contribute to the historic character of the Fulton Ferry Historic District.
