Old Huntsville Photo Album CD - APiece of History in Your Home

Old Huntsville Photo Album Will Bring Many Emotional Moments to Your Life

George Simson
I myself did not intended to waste much time on looking at old photos of unknown buildings and strangers; until I actually did and have been caught up in excitement and joy.

So what is so special about this album? Editor of "Old Huntsville" magazine, Tom Carney dedicated the last ten years of his life to collecting old photos and stories of across the city. People were happy to get rid of old pictures after some senior relative died; anyways they thought that the pictures collected through a lifetime are useless. But they are ever so precious for Carney. He collected them all and finally came up with this wonderful Old Huntsville Photo Album CD.

If you are a long-time resident, do not be surprised to find some pictures from your great-great-grandparents time also. Actually it looks more like a family album for all of us, ever-living in Huntsville. And be prepared for a dramatic slideshow: the city's change over an extended period is quiet unbelievable. You will not need anyone sitting next to you to explain what you see: Carney was thoughtful enough to add captions for every picture. Just like your aunt would sit next to you and show old family albums. I indeed feel like it is my home, whenever look at this album.

You will be amazed to discover a belongingness spirit when you look at the old pictures of cotton mill workers, the old Bankhead Parkway, slave cabins, private family reunions, the wonderful Monte Sano Hotel, soldiers from the Civil War, the Big Spring Park swimming pool, and even the old house of your grandparents.

You will also find pictures of very famous personalities such as J.F. Kennedy, George Wallace, Dwight Eisenhower, William McKinley, Werner von Braun and so many others. There are pictures of astronauts being honored, German scientists receiving US citizenship, buildings that are no more, beautiful buildings destroyed and forgotten. There are several governmental buildings, banks and churches that are still there today, gone forever or just remodeled to an unrecognizable state.

This album is more than a bunch of old pictures put together randomly; it is a collection of lives from all levels, from rich to poor, from spectacular to ordinary, from famous to unknown. It is a bunch of love offered with great humility to all Huntsville's current citizens. Carney says he enjoyed the most collecting these pictures and trying to find out the story behind them. Because each and every photograph has a story to tell. It may be a story from your own family, one of your neighbors across the street or the old butcher at the other end of the city. All important pictures that together form a story of great amplitude.

It is said that a picture is worth a thousand words. It is ever more true if those words cannot be spoken anymore, as the actors are long gone or never been able to tell their story.

Computers and internet technology are my passion end obsession. Anyway, I have other interests too. I like psychology and people relations very much!   View profile
