Lil Wayne began his solo career in 1999 with the Block Is Hot. He then released Lights Out and 500 degrees which both generated little buzz for the New Orleans rapper. His solo success didn't come until 2004 with the release of The Carter. Previous albums was criticized due to its lack of mature content and Lil Wayne was accused of using his fame to get buy on selling records instead of making actual good songs. With the Carter that all changed for Lil Wayne. The album became the story of his career when the critics seen he displayed more skill on his fourth solo effort. The second installment of the Carter, The Carter II then the Carter III all went platinum also. Marking Lil Wayne as a " heavyweight " in the hip hop world. Where did all this new success generate from ? What inspired Lil Wayne to "step his game up" on the Carter series ?
Gillie Da Kid , rapper from Philadelphia,PA claimed to be the force behind the Carter's content. The rapper claimed to be ghost writing for Lil Wayne in their highly publicized beef. Lil Wayne denies the accusations saying if Gillie wrote the Carter then where is his checks and money for doing so. It has been said if you watch Gillie Da Kid then watch Lil Wayne then Lil Wayne's new style is identical to Gillie's. The way he walks, talks, and raps is said to be linked to Gillie's style. So my question to you is did Lil Wayne steal Gillie Da Kid's style starting with the Carter and run with it or did young Lil Wayne just grow up and find his self. Coincidence or not ? Either way Lil Wayne starting with The Carter is new and improved and it's obvious he is the future of Hip Hop.
