Old Mission School Thrift Shop in San Luis Obispo

I love shopping at thrift stores because you never know what treasures you might find. I was on Vacation in Morro Bay California and we spent a good part of the day in San Luis Obispo going thrift store hopping.

One of my favorite thrift stores in San Luis Obispo is the Old Mission School Thrift Shop. They have all kinds of stuff from clothing for the entire family, furniture, cute knick knacks, books, toys, house wares, movies, etc.

The store itself is pretty clean which I find impressive because I've been to several thrift stores that very rarely pick up after people go through it. It was easy to walk around and go to each section of stuff. Everything is priced individually or they have a list that has prices on it (like their books have a price list instead of being priced separately) for items that carry no price tag.

The front of the store is full of adult clothing with some furniture. As you walk further back you'll see various knick knacks and other cutesy stuff. At the very back of the store to the right is a kid's area that has children's clothing with some toys. Next to that area is a wall that has several children's books with some more toys. Their kid's books are in baskets and there is one small bookcase on top of a shelf that has lots of books. On the left hand side of that area is another small room that is full of books for adults as well as tapes, CD's, etc.

Most of what I bought on my visit was books with a couple of toys and a throw pillow I paid for it at the front part of the store and received great friendly service. I used my credit card so if you are worried about not having cash on you, your card will be accepted.

The prices were pretty decent. Some things seemed a little expensive while others were just right. That's the way of most thrift stores though. Old Mission Thrift Shop is definitely worth stopping at whether you are a local or a tourist.

On occasion they have sales like one of the times I visited the thrift store, VHS tapes were on sale. To find out about the sales you pretty much just have to happen to be shopping there on that day.

The only downside that I really see is that their parking lot is very small and if you park in the lot that belongs to the Liqueur store, you may be towed away. During peak shopping times you may be hard pressed to find a parking spot without walking a long, long ways. There is one handicapped spot for those that have a handicapped plaque.

The proceeds from the thrift store benefits Old Mission School so not only are you getting great bargains but you're supporting a school as well.
