Old Navy Recalls Boys' Jackets

The Consumer Product Safety Commission has recalled Old Navy Performance Fleece-Lined boys' jackets. Approximately 17,200 of these jackets, manufactured in Indonesia were sold at Old Navy stores nationwide and oldnavy.com from August 2007 through November 2007. The jackets retail for $30.

The reason for the voluntary recall is that there is a potential entrapment hazard to children because of the drawstring. The jackets have a waist drawstring with a toggle. This could possibly become snagged or caught in small spaces or doorways causing an entrapment hazard to children. In February 1996, CPSC issued guidelines to help prevent children from getting entangled by drawstrings in upper garments, such as jackets and sweatshirts.

The performance fleece-lined shell jackets have a hood and a front zipper with a drawstring at the waist. The jackets were sold in either black or blue in various children's sizes. The words "Old Navy" is written on a label at the neck of the jacket. Style # 507907 is printed on a white label which is sewn into the seam on the side of the jacket.

According to the recall, consumers can remedy this problem by doing a couple of things. Consumers can return the jackets to any Old Navy store. If you purchased this jacket online then you should contact Old Navy for instructions on how to return the jacket to receive a full refund. If you can return the recalled jacket before March 31, 2008, then Old Navy will also give you a $5 appreciation card. If you choose to keep the jacket, consumers should then immediately remove the drawstring to eliminate the possible entrapment hazard.
