of more than 25,000. The town's motto is 'A City with Character', but some of the citizens insist they should add an 's' to this, making it 'A City with Characters'. If you are wondering why the name has a familiar ring, it might be because it is the hometown of the first American Idol, Kelly Clarkson.
Now if you wander down the railroad tracks to Main Street and Ellison you come to a section known as 'Old Town'.
The name says it all, for this was once the heart of Burleson. The town has long since spread out and includes all the modern conveniences. Yet, it is here in Old Town that you are offered a unique view of how it must have looked in
days gone by.
Today the old buildings are filled with little eating places like Babe's Dinnerhouse, The Tea Room or simply The Malt Shop.
There are several antique stores which add to the nostalgic atmosphere. The antique shops are mostly composed of independent dealers who rent small spaces in order to sell their treasures. These include Holly's Hobby, which is named after the owner who has devoted her life to collecting - hence the name. Then there is Nashville, but its surprisingly not as western as one would think by the name. And of course, the Fudge Shop which is a blend of 'to die for' fudge and antiques. The dealers will laughingly tell you that they are one another's best customers.
Old Town is composed of only a few short blocks, with Burleson Heritage Center and City Hall nearby. Just up from there
is the Police Station, but it's probably not a place you'd really want to spend much time. Running parallel to Old Town is the railroad. Once the lifeline of the City, is now only a nuance. Since the main road goes right over these tracks it can tie you
up for what seems an eternity. You don't have to go far in either direction to bring you back into the modern era.
In Old Town you can take a step back in time and slow to a leisure pace. You can go shopping without the stress, indulge
a little and laugh a lot. In this 'rushing, stressful bustle, horns honking and tempers flaring' era, we all need an Old Town in our lives.

Post a CommentWhen she walked over she very abruptly dropped our burgers on the table and asked me "What the heck was that look for?!" I didn't know what she was referring to and neither did my mother, so my mom replied with "She's a little tired." because I have had facial reconstructive surgery as a child and sometimes it may look as me being depressed. Then the woman very forcefully asked me "Are you mad at me or something?!?!?!" and I replied with "Do I have a reason to be?" and she just huffed and walked away. When we checked out and I left the building, she was sitting outside, immediately in front of the door talking to someone who was also sitting there and I heard her talking about me on my way out. Call me crazy, but you should never talk so badly to potential customers. She was rude, and I will NEVER take anyone there, and I will however tell everyone I know about how awful that place was. The food was great, but that woman was the most hateful person I have ever met.
It's a shame that some people work at great restaurants when they deliver poor service. I have always loved that malt shop. I would go a few times each summer. Just fairly recently I went with my mother and I will NEVER EVER go back their because one of their employees. I don't know who the woman was, but from what I could gather she was the owner (Or so I think) When we sat down she was sitting at a table with customers and she was extremely loud and obnoxious. We didn't say anything because she seemed to be having a good time. She made one of her employees do everything, the poor girl. She never even got up to check on anyone. At some point she grabbed her purse and left. Upon her return she went into the kitchen with a small child that I am assuming was her daughter. When she came back she screamed "TWO BURGERS!!!!" when there was only 3 tables filled and only one didn't have food. I moved my papers so she could set the items down and I raised my hand. When she walked over she very
Wow, Burleson sounds like a fascinating place. I shall have to visit it sometime.
