Old Toys Making a Comeback

Nicole Lang
Oftentimes I find myself along with many of my friends in awe of all of the new toys that are available to children today. What technology has done can be truly amazing. I remember Atari being "cool" and now we have interactive video games such as Wii in which you can play tennis or perform in a "Rock Band". With all of this one would think that toys of the past are a distant memory.

However walking through stores today it is amazing how many toys from when I was a child are making a comeback. As a child I remember how much I loved "My Little Pony" and "Strawberry Shortcake" and how all of the boys in my classes loved "Transformers" and "G.I. Joe". In fact, even "Mr. Potato Head" a classic since even well before my time is quite popular with help from the Toy Story revival.

It might be that "G.I. Joe" and "Transformers" have resurfaced as a result of the movies that have come out. While that may be the case these toys are all over stores today and boys are constantly asking for them.

Little girls toys are a bit different. "My Little Pony" and "Strawberry Shortcake" have not made their big screen movie debuts but yet have regained the same level of popularity. While there are cartoons and movies made, little girls all over are putting these toys on their Christmas wish lists.

It seems that Hasbro who makes most of these toys is onto something. Sure they have also joined the technology of today but my bringing back some of these old toys they are creating a bridge between parents and children. Now parents are playing the same games with their children that they played. This is truly becoming a unique time and what is even more amazing is that children with all of the choices they have today are looking to these old toys with the same enthusiasm that we did.

Another interesting concept being brought back by Hasbro is "Family Game Night". To bring this into today's world they have created a Wii game for this. You can play classics like Sorry, Battleship, Connect Four and Boggle or play the newer Sorry version Sorry Sliders. You can play Monopoly on Wii also or actually play the board games.

Either way now more than ever children and parents should have a common bond when it comes to the toys they do and used to play with.
