Older Writers Can Benefit from Twitter

Nina Rotz
Web savvy freelance writers always have an easier time utilizing new technology for marketing and article promotion. Older writers should not discount social networks, and online media tools for article promotion. What may seem trendy and cool to the younger crowds should not discourage older writers. You too can be cool enough for Twitter, and you are. As a freelancer, you are talented enough to write for the web, so get started with Twitter and enjoy the perks of social networking.

Twitter Article Promotion; More Than Micro Blogging
Twitter allows users to post links, and feeds to published articles. Self-promotion is allowed, but socializing is encouraged. While Twitter is a global online portal, it also allows members to control who they follow or twitter with. There is more to Twitter than meets the eye, freelance writers can promote, find other online publishing websites, or score a major writing gig from the Twitter exposure. Besides finding other freelance writers, there are Twitter communities dedicated to freelancing and even job offers being posted throughout the social network. Do not let technology fears get the best of you, as Twitter is free and easy to use.

Using Twitter; Choosing Who You Follow
Scared of spam or scam on Twitter? In reality, every social network suffers from scam attempts and those who abuse the system by spamming it with their "fast money making" links. Twitter has options of blocking users that you suspect are there to scam. It also allows you to communicate with only those users you prefer. Being smart online is important for every website you use or visit.

Setting Up Auto-Post for promoting articles on Twitter
Many publishing websites, such as Associated Content, offer widgets that will automatically post links to your Twitter account once the articles have been published. This immediate notice is sent to the Twitter community, which will allow people to see the link and click on it. The immediate posting also starts giving you fast page views, and can help with faster Google indexing of the published articles.

Many freelance writers publish work on multiple websites. Auto-posting of feeds allow you to post article links to every website that you write for.

Seasonal material, such as Christmas articles, can be re-submitted to Twitter to make the articles evergreen and relevant. Other articles, such as How Tos, can be promoted year round.

Twitter and Google Page Ranks
Another important benefit of Twitter is that it gives you backlinks which are a must for a better Google Page Ranking. Your Twitter profile allows a link to be placed to your website, or even a profile page to one of the many websites you write for. If you choose to use your Source page profile link, that page will receive a Google boost and better ranking in terms of SEO. Do not worry if you are not familiar with Google standings and rankings.

Twitter Promoting; Benefit From Socializing
Through Twitter's free service, you can build your own social network of fellow writers and users that you are comfortable with following. These users can be a dedicated of group of readers for your published articles, that will click on feed links and give you page view boosts. You can also click on article links posted by other fellow writers, and read articles that are of interest to you.

There are other tools that Twitter offers, such as ReTweeting. This tool allows you to repost interesting links posted by fellow writers, or have your followers distribute feed links to your published articles. Basically, it allows your article to reach an even larger audience and get you even more page views.

There are many other benefits to social networking and especially Twittering. Twitter is a great tool for freelance writers, and can mean better page views for those who publish online. Age makes no difference, and should not limit a writer if they are unsure of how to use this powerful content promoter.

Very helpful. I am an older writer and amazed myself when I joined Facebook. Guess I'll have to join Twitter too -sounds like it is an even better way of promoting articles.

Lol at Lee's comment. I've had my share of "what I ate for breakfast" twitters.

Yes, we can all update and tweak things like Twitter (although I think that even new writers can sometimes use a reminder about that) Loved this article!

I think a lot of people are missing the boat with Twitter. I think things like promotion is exactly what Twitter is useful for. i don't think that using Twitter to tell all your friends you just broke a nail is what it's for. That being said, I'm going to go write a tweet about what I just ate for breakfast.
