First of all, I was impressed by the fact that the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen in Gatlinburg makes most of their candy from scratch. The shop makes everything from dipped chocolate to taffy to candy apples. The shop features and open kitchen where you can see most of the candy being made. In the front of the store, you have the chance to see taffy being pulled by a large machine. Honestly, it doesn't get any fresher than this.
The variety at the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen is something wonderful. Whether you want truffles, fudge, gummies, caramel apples or assorted chocolates, the shop has something to please your taste buds. I must admit that I went a bit overboard. I grabbed a box of assorted chocolates, picked out a variety of fudge, dipped chocolates, truffles, chocolate covered cherries and several other items. It all looked so good, but of course I had my favorites when all was said and done.
By far, my favorites were the truffles and the Brown Bears, which are turtles. The truffles were incredibly decadent and big. Biting into one of the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen's truffles is like biting into heaven. They are absolutely perfect. Not to be outdone, the Brown Bears are also amazing. The milk chocolate is smooth, the pecans incredibly fresh and the caramel perfectly gooey.
The prices at the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen can seem a bit staggering at first, but I expected them. Gatlinburg is a high scale tourist town and comes with high scale prices. Most candies were priced between $10 to $20 per pound. But, honestly, with all that I bought, it cost less than $60. I was quite pleased with the price.
One last thing I must mention about the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen is how friendly the staff is. They went out of their way to be helpful and to keep my candy perfect for the trip home. Everything was neatly wrapped and even strong flavored items were wrapped separately so that it wouldn't ruin the other candy.
I have to give the Ole Smoky Candy Kitchen in Gatlinburg, Tennessee 5 out 5 stars. I will definitely be going back every time I visit the area. There's simply no need to try the other candy stores in the area. The reviews don't lie. This is the best candy store in Gatlinburg. You get handmade candy, made there in the shop, and a friendly staff. You can't ask for more.
