A visit to Miami Beach isn't complete without a stop or overnight stay at one of its most popular parks. Located on Biscayne Bay, this busy Miami metropolitan state park is an amazing place for off-road bike enthusiasts who find it hard to leave the city for outdoor adventures.
There are currently ten miles of biking trails through the park with more slated for the future. Intermediate off-road bikers find that the over ten miles of trails are challenging and some of the toughest this side the state has to offer. For beginners and novice off-road bikers, a series of loop trails offers four miles of easier off-road bicycling.
A paved trail allows slow cruising bicyclists and roller blade riders a place to enjoy a smoother ride through the park. All users of the trail must wear a helmet, so don't forget to pack it! Rent helmets and bikes at the nearby "Blue Moon Outdoor Center", the parks concession. Visit the website here for more information on rental fees.
Fishing is a fun pastime on the parks fishing pier. Throw in a line on the pier or on the shoreline of the beautiful Intracoastal Waterway and catch one of the big ones. Canoe and kayak rentals from the parks concession allow visitors to fish in Biscayne Bay and out among the mangrove trees for some fantastic deeper water fishing.
Once you've had your fill on the water, visit one of nine park pavilions for the perfect picnic lunch. Rent these covered picnic pavilions, each complete with water. The largest pavilion houses 24 picnic tables and has electricity making it the perfect place for a family gathering, business function or wedding reception.
If you plan on making your visit last longer while in the Miami area, stay overnight at one of the fourteen cabins at Oleta River State Park. These tiny one bedroom cabins feature covered porches, picnic tables a double bed and air conditioning. A nearby restroom houses hot public showers for overnight guests.
For more information on directions to the park, fees and hours of operations, visit the official Oleta River State Park website here.
