Olive and Lavender Oil Healing Hair Treatment for Normal Hair

Morayma Makay
While there seem to be many remedies for dried out hair and extra oily hair, it often seems as though there are never enough hair treatments for those of us with normal hair. While normal hair doesn't always need the extra attention that damaged, dry hair or oil prone scalps do, it still needs some pampering especially if exposed to harsh weather conditions, sun or chlorine on a regular basis.

There are many wonderful products on the market that promise to reverse potential damage done to hair by chemicals and the elements, but a favorite treatment for hair that is used by beauticians worldwide is a hair mask made out of lavender essential oil and olive oil.

It may sound as thought this treatment could leave your hair limp because it consists of oils, but the truth is, that once washed out, the lavender and olive oils will leave your hair shiny and soft while soothing your scalp.

Olive oil is a wonderful hair and scalp treatment because it contains vitamins and enzymes that are easily absorbed into the hairshaft as well as the scalp, rejuvenating them from the inside out. Mediterranean women have used olive oil as a beauty secret for centuries giving them the gorgeous skin and hair that they are famous for. Adding lavender essential oil to the mix not only will give you a relaxing, aromatherapeutic experience, but is also well known in the herbology world for helping with everything from hair loss to dandruff and stimulates blood circulation to the scalp.

When you are ready to pamper your hair with this conditioning treatment, all you will need is half a cup of olive oil and approximately twelve to fourteen drops of lavender essential oil. Mix them together in a small bowl. If you have very long hair, you can add a few more ounces of olive oil to the mixture to ensure that you will have enough to cover your tresses.

Once you have the oils in hand, heat them up on the stovetop in a pan over a low flame. Avoid microwaving the oils as they can become too hot as well as perhaps lose some of the nutritional properties that they have in them. When the oils are warm, you can pour the mixture back into the bowl and massage it into your hair. If you have an old towel laying around, you can wrap your hair up in it, or use a shower cap, in order to avoid getting the oil on your clothes, furniture, etc. Leave this treatment on for half an hour and then rinse well with warm water. After rinsing, you will want to shampoo your hair as usual. You may use conditioner if you want, although after this treatment, it is not necessary to use added moisturizers. Style your hair as usual, or let it air dry and you will notice immediately that your scalp feels healthy, and your hair is shiny and healthier looking.

Although your hair may not be dry and damaged, or oily and hard to manage, giving yourself a hydrating and healing hair treatment once a week is a wonderful way to ensure that your hair and scalp remain healthy regardless of weather conditions or chemicals it may be exposed to day to day. All natural hair treatments like olive oil and lavender essential oil mixtures will ensure that your hair and scalp will always look and feel their best.
