Olive Oil and Black Hair, Why Do They Work Well Together?

Whether you're wearing a ponytail, bun, wrap, twists, flat-iron layered styles, curls or stacks, just make sure your hair is moisturized. Cosmetic consumers see olive oil products in almost every beauty supply store for black hair care and in some major retailers. But what is it about olive oil that makes it so great for hair?

Olive oil comes from the Meditarranean region in olive trees. It's useful for hair growth, shiny hair, repairs damaged hair and is a useful conditioner. You can use actual olive oil on your hair as a substitute for store bought products or as an added conditioner to eliminate dandruff.

My personal favorite olive oil conditioner is Vitale Olive Oil hair mayonnaise, but the variety of olive oil products is increasing so much that you'll have plenty to choose from.

Pay attention to the weight of the product. I've tried products like Sofn'free GroHealthy, which uses milk protein, olive oil and omega 3. The Sofn'free hair lotion and strengthening creme are both great for my scalp, but I prefer the strengthening creme or three-layer growth oil for styling. The lotion leaves my hair too damp when it's first applied and too fuzzy near the edges when it dries. For those with thinner hair, the olive oil products shouldn't weigh your hair down or make your hair limp. Use a little at a time to measure how much you need, but make sure to oil your actual scalp.

Even if you oil your hair regularly, going to events with a lot of body heat on top of hot weather can double the humidity. It doesn't hurt to keep a small hair conditioner product on hand and a hair clip too in case your hair decides to have a mind of its own.
