Medal Standings by Country

The United States leads the olympic medal standings going into day four if you include the opening cermonies. Or as of early morning of February 15th 2010 here are the medals that were won yesterday.

Being a Canadian we intently watched Alexandre Bilodeau ski his way to gold last night and although I would normally start with the country with the highest medal count I had to skip protocol and show how proud we all are for Alexandre Bilodeau. What an awesome run he took the gold after beating out his former teammate turned Australian Dale Begg-Smith. What an amazing run by Bilodeau a phenomonal skier with a dedication to his sport and his family. A rightly deserved win he had a beautiful 90 degree cross on his final jump as he came down the moguls. Canada's first gold was a well deserved medal that is the first medal Canada has won on home soil ever.

Interestingly enough both Bilodeau and Jennifer Heil (who won silver the night before) both have something in common, their coach Dominik Gauthier. Gauthier is also Heil's boyfriend. How proud he must feel right now knowing that his hard work has paid off.

Another medal for Canada yesterday was bronze and went to Kristina Groves for the women's 3000 metre speed skating.

Bryan Wilson of the United States also participated in the men's moguls along with Begg-Smith and Bilodeau skiied away with the Bronze medal. He had an amazing run down the hill and landed some beautiful jumps.

Johnny Spillane took silver in the men's nordic combined individual 10 KM.

Germany got their hands on both Gold and Silver medals in the men's singles Luge run. Felix Lock took the gold and David Moeller took the silver. Both had amazing run times and both picked up speed as they went down the track.

Stephanie Beckert managed to scoop up the silver in the women's 3000 metre speed skating competition.

You can't forget about France obtaining another gold medal yessterday.
Jason Lamy Chappius won the gold over Johnny Spillane in the Nordic combined individual 10 KM run yesterday. Jay Vincent took the gold in the men's 10 KM sprint.

The italians picked up two medals yesterday one in Men's single Luge Arm Zoeggeler a favorite in the competition luged himself into a bronze medal. Alessandro Pitton mangaed to grab the final medal in the Nordic combined individual 10 KM.

The Czech Republic picked up their first medal yesterday as Martina Sabilkova grabbed the gold in the women's 3000 metre speed skating competition.

Emil Hegle Svendsen of Norway has taken silver in the men's 10 KM sprint.

Finally the last medal being reported for February 14th went to Jak Fakov who took bronze in the men's 10 KM sprint.
