Olympics 2016 Summer Games Copenhagen Oct. 2

11 Days and Counting to Olympics 2016 Summer Games Vote

A review of past Olympics in America gives insight into what taxpayers can expect from a potential Chicago Olympics 2016 Summer Games bid. Also, included is a current look at pro-Chicago's Olympics 2016 Summer Games and those opposed to Chicago Olympics 2016 Summer Games. Latest information from Rio and Tokyo in their Olympics 2016 Summer Games bids is covered.

In almost every city that holds the Olympics has a losing proposition with optimistic goals to persuade citizens to get on board with the Olympics that never seem to pan out, the seemingly blank checks, and post-Olympic infrastructure that sometimes has to be dismantled. Desired outcomes seem to lead to a financial fiasco at taxpayer expense. Known olympic cities where this is the case is: Vancouver, Athens, and Barcelona.

Past Olympics in America

Four American cities have hosted the Olympics Summer Games. The latest is Atlanta in 1996, Los Angeles twice hosted the Summer Olympics, once in 1932 and in 1984, and St. Louis in 1904. Los Angeles had success with its finances in 1984; some would say it was a miracle.

According to Chicago Tribune, "Atlanta spent about $6 million in its two-year bid to win the Olympics, [former Mayor Andrew] Young said," the Tribune reports today. "Afterward, the fund-raising organization was broke, he said." According to Billy Payne, who ran the Atlanta Olympics, says "the greatest benefit to his city wasn't economic, but, you know, lingering pride."

Chicago for Olympics 2016 Summer Games

Mayor Daley told reporters, "Our competition comes in Rio de Janeiro...I'm getting more confident because they're getting the 2014 (World Cup). The World Cup is completely different than the Olympics," Daley said.

The first of September, John Dodge, CBS2 executive producer of digital media posted a message on his Facebook page that on the upcoming Thursday, a Olympics 2016 Bid Bus Tour "for journalists cover the city's efforts to get the 2016 Games" will be given by the Chicago Headline Club, which is the Society of Professional Journalists local chapter.

What will this bus tour do? According to Club President Beth Konrad said in a press release, "The tour offers a unique opportunity to visit the proposed Olympic sites and hear timely briefings from experts and community leaders." In my opinion, this news comes a little too late.

Jayne Alofs, associate for Broker of Jameson, real estate organization, states the real estate market in the financial district could see much activity. She says, "If we get the Olympics 2016, I think we will be able to get rid of a lot of the inventory that is hanging around that market," Alofs said. "I think it's going to really stimulate that neighborhood both residential and commercial. There is going to be a greater population and a greater demand."

Brian Maddox, executive director of the Associate of Subcontractors and Affiliates of Chicago said, "The impact will be felt not only in the city of Chicago but in all the other outlying suburbs within the state of Illinois and the surrounding states as candidates and potential athletes come here to begin to train during the season and off-season to begin to acclimate [themselves] for summer in Chicago."

Chicago Against Olympics 2016 Summer Games

The insurance policy was noted in an earlier article, Olympics 2016, Oprah Winfrey and Michelle Obama.
According to Crain's the policy only covers $1.1 billion of the projected $3.8 billion Olympics 2016 Summer Games budget. "Insurance against construction overruns will only cover the first 10 percent; not a good bet in Chicago, where overruns historically come in two or three times that." The dollars difference between sponsorship and private donations is where the taxpayer will be called upon. This is the unknown amount.

Rio for Olympics 2016 Summer Games

Head of the volunteers for Rio for Olympics 2016 Summer Games has requested volunteers visit 2 websites and send the links to friends to show support. Also, volunteers have been asked to vote once a day.

Tokyo for Olympics 2016 Summer Games

Tokyo is preparing for its Carbon-Minus Olympics 2016 Summer Games. Prime Minister Hatoyama will discuss Tokyo's global CO2 emissions 25 percent reduction drive by 2020, with world leaders at the UN Summit in New York City, which takes place later in September.

Tokyo has built a man-made island, Sea Forest, in Tokyo Bay. By 2016, it should flourish with about 500,000 trees. Olympics 2006 Summer Games activities on Sea Forest would include rowing, canoeing and kayaking, and BMX cycling and mountain bike competitions.

On October 2, will it be Chicago, Madrid, Rio, or Tokyo? Stay tuned for more Olympics 2016 Summer Games information as it unfolds in the next 11 days.

Good point, Mike. I know that Michelle Obama has a pivotal role in pitching for Chicago...And I can't help but to reflect how the first lady is finally proud this country..because her husband secured the vote.
