On the American Condition

G M
There is a quote I once read that says, "I would rather be hated for who I am than loved for who I am not." I am not exactly sure who wrote that but I think it left an impact on me. Because today in our societies we all just seem to be copying everyone else and we don't know who we are anymore. Even the people who try to be different are doing it in exact replica of others. It is such an amazing phenomenon and I am guilty of it as much as everyone else. But what is more amazing is the selfishness that seem to consume everyone. We all just are minding our own buisness and we do not care what happens everywhere else even though we know that it will affect us gravely. We keep putting our heads down in the sand and we just say we can not do anything about it so why worry about it. You know if this what was said before than we would not have achieved what we have today. We would not have a United States, or a T.V. or a car or a microwave or a democracy if you actually believe there is one..etc.
Basically, if you do not realize there is a problem then you are part of the problem. If there is no social awarness of a problem then nothing will be done. You must be asking, what the hell is the problem. Well, problems exist on so many levels, politically, socially, culturally and economically. Ofcourse you say so what? I will tell you so what. So next time you go fill your car with gas you will know what is the problem. You will know that last year it was a dollar cheaper and the year before it was another dollar cheaper and three years ago it was like 99 cents a gallon. And yet they keep shoving SUVs down our throat and idiots keep buying. I do not care if you have two kids or four, no one on earth need an SUV. My reasoning is, only twenty or thirty years ago there was one car in the family and it was a four door and no matter how big was the family that's all they had and they had to deal with it. I wonder how much was the price of gas then. And guess what? no one complained. No one said I need a bigger car. Nope they were perfectly happy. And now it seems they just keep building bigger and bigger SUVs. WHY???? Convenience? or just plain stupidity.
They are raping us and we are happy to be part of it. If we take the SUVs out of the equation somehow you will notice that as you are reading this, there are two wars in two different countries that we are part of. You will also notice that these two countries are so damn away that probably half of the nation would not be able to pinpoint it in a map. One war started after 9/11 to haunt down and kill the terrorist who were part of the attacks. Well, Usama is still chilling somewhere and the terrorists are still out there. So our presence in Afghanistan is not really doing much. Then we have IRAQ which there was no justified reason to be in it. SORRY there is none. No freeing people, no democracy, not even oil, none of that bullshit. So how is this an issue? Well as you all know that we have a military presence in both countries. Well due to this military presence there are planes that are circling through Iraq and Afghanistan like 24 hrs to monitor the areas. And yes these planes use gas. Can you imagine how much gas is that being wasted? But we don't know anything. We are happy to watch American Idiot, aka American Idol and have our brain washed everyday on television. So yes Mr.President you have my vote to go to war, fuck up the economy, make the world hate us even more, ruin the education system, ruin social security, ruin immigration, divide the nation, but please, please I beg you don't take away my Fear Factor, my Sopranoes, my gazillion reality shows and my Desperate Housewives. We can all just drive a car we can not afford to our fulltime jobs in the morning and part time jobs in the evening then go to a home that we can not afford either and hardly stay in because we are usually working to pay off the house and the car and all the credit cards that we use to pay for our shopping and our expensive clothes that we wear to our jobs and weekend gate aways. Does anyone give a damn? Not really.
We are all working like slaves all year for a 5 day vacation that is going to be probably spent at home looking for another job or at best at Wisconsin dells or even Indiana Beach. We are pathetic people. We are not doing anything. We obey the laws that are usually enforced by assholes called cops who are eating doughnuts in their car waiting for a sucker who will change lanes without making a signal who would not come to a complete full stop in a stop sign or who would turn right in a red light or , my favorite, have his registration lights out. Yes Cops are assholes so are firefighters. I am sorry they are not heroes. They get paid for this job they are doing. Its not like they are doing this out of their good will. Nope they get paid and they get paid well too and it is part of the job to have some hazardous instants that could be fatal. They know that. They agreed to be part of it. The fact is we obey the law blindly and we get nothing out of it. Seriously you would be stuck at a red light in an intersection in the middle of nowhere and you are wondering how long until it turns green while you can just go and not waste your time or gas.

"I think we are just forced into being scared from all kinds of things and forces. This allows us to just mind our own business and not look at the corruption in this world and all the conspiracies and terrible things that happen every hour of every day.

The truth is there are no magic answers, no miraculous methods to
overcome the problems we face, just the familiar ones: honest search for understanding, education, organization, action that raises the cost of state violence for its perpetrators or that lays the basis for institutional change
-and the kind of commitment that will persist despite the temptations of disillusionment, despite many failures and only limited successes, inspired by the hope of a brighter future." Noam Chomsky

I was told once that I was a hero in reading and not in writing. That was in sixth grade. I was told that because my writing was always "hors sujet" or was out of the subject and that I was too imaginative....  View profile
