Carly Smithson, the Irish rocker, ended up in the bottom three last week after a performance of Queen's "Show Must Go On" that came off as angry during inspiration week. She really needed to be at the top of her game this week to compensate, however, she may have overcompensated by holding back. She started off a bit weak and slightly shaky, with her breathing seeming a bit off.
The middle portion of the song was stronger. "Without You" is definitely a song that Carly could have used to display her broad range and powerhouse voice, but she did not do so. She showed a lack of confidence in her low range. Otherwise, her vocals and pitch were on target, but she just did not wow everyone. I believe Carly will again be in the bottom three this week however, I think she will be safe.
Randy and Paula gave Carly mediocre remarks and Simon said he had wanted to hear her sing this song, but she did not impress him. On a more positive note, Carly looked beautiful in a long sleeve v-neck dress with a sequined waist and coordinating jewelry. It was very complimentary to her figure and hid her tattooed arm. Surprisingly, Simon, who has criticized Carly's appearance lately, did not comment on this evening's attire.
My prediction is that all three men, David Archuleta, David Cook, and Jason Castro will be safe this week since they all delivered well received performances that earned positive remarks from the judges. Having to sing songs by Mariah Carey meant the men really could not be compared to the Diva which was a plus for them. I believe Carly Smithson, Brooke White, and Kristy Lee Cook will land in the bottom three with Brooke being sent home.
