Tonight's episode of "American Idol" (Thursday, March 26, 2009) came off pretty much as predicted. The oil rig singer, Michael Sarver, was voted off.

The evening began with 36 million votes weighing in on the Wednesday night performances. Adam Lambert was first notified that he was "safe," which seems only fair.

Joss Stone and Smokey Robinson sang a duet and Stevie Wonder sang a medley of his hits, which had Judge Kara dancing and swaying in a way that was very odd.

The big shocker of the night was that Matt Giraud ended up in the bottom three, when he had definitely been one of the best three performers on Wednesday. Simon said, rather succinctly, that America just must not like them (the bottom 3). The third person who received the lowest number of votes was blind contestant Scott MacIntyre.

Michael Sarver performed his song a second time and did well, but, considering that Simon had as good as told him that he was "simply competing, and you have no chance of winning" on the previous night's performance(s), it was not a shocker that no "Judges' Save" was used.

Stay tuned for next week's competition when "and then there were 9" applies.

I hated to see him go.

I think votefortheworst.com is definitely having an impact on AI. Megan "Sanjay" Joy, the current favorite bad contestant at VFTW, didn't even get into the bottom three even though she was embarrassingly dreadful (worse than Michael, Matt and Scott, who at least all tried). Megan seems to be one of those people with boundless confidence (because she knows her beauty earns her extra points) and tiny talents.
