On American Idol, Michael Sarver's Ain't Going Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up is Lacking

American Idol Season 8, Round of 11

Michael Sarver chose to sing Ain't Going Down 'Til the Sun Comes Up by Garth Brooks. This was the week when 11 contestants chose songs from a member of the Grand Old Opry. He chose a song that was a fast paced, non-stop celebration of youth. His voice is not strong enough to carry it off. He did remember all the words, but made the comment that he already knew the song. He is not charismatic enough to be doing this type of song.

Michael's clothing was appropriate for the song he was doing and he is believable as a country music artist. His voice is not strong enough to do the really powerful fast paced songs. He needs to stick to softer ballads where the lack of power in his voice will not be noticed so much. The quality of his voice is good, but the power is not.

His performance on this song would not be noticed or remembered by the judges or by the voting public. He is a nice guy, but not the next American Idol. Based on this performance I would say that he would be better off going home now and saving himself from further stress.

No one sings that song better than Garth Brooks. It must have taken a lot of courage for him to choose to even attempt this song.
