On a Budget? Great Places to Shop for Christmas Gifts

Abby Willow

Yay, Christmas! Oh, wait- you have a seriously tight budget, and a ton of gifts to buy. Picky teenagers, Mom and Dad, new nieces and nephews...how can you seriously afford to get a great gift for absolutely everyone? Short of going to the dollar store to get everything you need, you have no idea what to do! Well, there are ways you can shop smart without spending it all, and no, you don't have to hit the dollar store in order to do so! Here are great tips to getting awesome and unique gifts for everyone you want, without going broke.

For those more expensive gifts, don't rule out Craigslist (only shop locally) and eBay. Start browsing now for great deals on more pricey things, like designer clothes or shoes, jewelry, or even cars. If you allow yourself time to find the perfect gift, you can get a great deal on something you would have paid crazy dollars for in department stores. You can even find gift cards on eBay with large amounts on them for a steal!

Pawn shops are an electronics or weapons go-to place. Choose a reputable pawn shop in your area for getting like-new or actually new items, like musical instruments, DVDs, gaming consoles, and more. Pawn shops are usually loaded come Christmas with people selling their items for Christmas cash, and their loss can be your gain. Don't rule pawn shops out by any means!

Thrift stores are great for finding near-new toys and knick-knacks for people. If you are crafty, then you can create a great and unique gift by re-vamping a rocking chair or end table for a gift for Mom and Dad or someone who needs new furniture. Thrift stores are wonderful places to get new clothing as well for a great price- often local clothing stores donate new items to thrift stores for tax write-offs, and you can get the savings by puchasing clothing (with tags!) at a miniscule price. Just because it's in a thrift store doesn't make it used.

Estate sales are awesome for picking up items that antique lovers want, or for picking up washers and dryers and larger items that are in great condition for an even better value. Older children who are trying to establish independence are the ones you can shop for at estate sales. You can pick up nice tables and chairs, appliances, rugs, wall art, and even beds and bedding at a great price! Estate sales often have super deals on tools as well!

Thanks for the wonderful ideas! I tried to comment on your other articles, no comment box. I really enjoyed the one about cooking with pancake mix.

We do a lot our Christmas shopping at thrift stores. There's very often high quality items for much less than retail. Nicely done, Abby!
