On the Course

Dean Cooper
White green and orange things
My ball, the grass, my tee
Smell of the fresh cut grass
Cool of lightly saturated ground
Below my feet

Take my driver, set up to swing
Ping of the head as it meets ball
Lands straight and true
White no longer on orange
A speck in a maze of green

Shot two with iron seven
More of a tap than a ping
Ball glides up, white amongst blue
Sails back down, fifteen short of home
White back on green

Hands move forward with great control
Small tap; white rolls on green
Disappears in the dark hole
My first birdie! More in sight
Sweet taste of victory

Hole number two
White on orange once more
