On Lies and Politicans: Thoughts to Ponder

Alyce Rocco
Thoughts to ponder on lies and politicians:

O, what a tangled web we weave when first we practice to deceive.~ Walter Scott

Men are liars. We'll lie about lying if we have to. I'm an algebra liar. I figure two good lies make a positive. ~ Tim Allen

He who permits himself to tell a lie once, finds it much easier to do a second and third time, till at length it becomes habitual; he tells lies without attending to it, and truths without the world's believing him. This falsehood of the tongue leads to that of the heart, and in time depraves all its good dispositions. ~ Thomas Jefferson

The road to tyranny, we must never forget, begins with the destruction of the truth.~ Bill Clinton, 1995

You can fool some of the people all of the time, and all of the people some of the time, but you can not fool all of the people all of the time. ~ Abraham Lincoln

By means of shrewd lies, unremittingly repeated, it is possible to make people believe that heaven is hell ~ and hell heaven. The greater the lie, the more readily it will be believed. ~ Adolph Hitler

Propaganda must not serve the truth, especially not insofar as it might bring out something favorable for the opponent. ~ Adolph Hitler

Yes, the president should resign. He has lied to the American people, time and time again, and betrayed their trust. Since he has admitted guilt, there is no reason to put the American people through an impeachment. He will serve absolutely no purpose in finishing out his term the only possible solution is for the president to save some dignity and resign. ~ Bill Clinton, as a 12th Congressional District hopeful during the Nixon investigations.

I did not have sexual relations with that woman.~ Bill Clinton about Monica Lewinsky

It's essential to tell the truth at all times. This will reduce life's pain. Lying distorts reality. All forms of distorted thinking must be corrected.~ John Bradshaw

I believe experience counts but it's not everything. Values, judgment and the record that I have amassed in my state also should count for something...we have got to have the courage to change... the same old experience is not relevant.~ excerpt from presidential debate, Bill Clinton's answer refuting his opponents claim that Bill's lack of experience made him a better choice for the office of President of the United States of America then Bill.

The American people are tired of liars and people who pretend to be something they're not.
Hillary Clinton

There is a very easy way to prevent anyone from being put into harm's way, that is for Saddam Hussein to disarm. And I have absolutely no belief that he will. I have to say that this is something I've followed for more than a decade. If he were serious about disarming, he would have been much more forthcoming. I ended up voting for the resolution after carefully reviewing the information, intelligence that I had available, talking with people whose opinions I trusted, tried to discount the political or other factors that I didn't believe should be in any way a part of this decision. I would love to agree with you, but I can't, based on my own understanding and assessment of the situation.~ Hillary Clinton to Code Pink, 2006

We acted on faulty intelligence. ~ Hillary Clinton during CNN You Tube debate, 2007

..this is George Bush's war, he is responsible for this war, he started this war, he mismanaged the war, he escalated the war, and he refuses to end this war. ~ We are trying to end the war. ~ Hillary Clinton, 2007

Experience and judgment have been two issues that have been made in this campaign. Senator Clinton ~ you said the most important vote you cast in the Senate was the Iraq war; you voted for it. ~ Moderator at Debate. Ms.Clinton did not answer that part of the question but spoke instead about the experience she gained with her failed Health Care plan; her being unwilling to comprise at the time.

I am excited that I may be able finally to break that hardest of all glass ceilings~ I am running because I think I am the most qualified and experienced person to hit the ground running in January 2009
. ~ Hillary Clinton

We do not know walking into the White House in January 2009 what we're going to find. ~ Hillary Clinton on refusing to pledge to have our troops out of Iraq by the end of 2013.

...prevent the toughness from gained total authority and to avoid becoming a mirror image of those men who value power above life, and control over love. ~ Maya Angelou Wouldn't Take Nothing for My Journey Now explaining that women need to be careful remembering their values and in choices they make.

I do not want a man that "...willfully provided perjurious, false and misleading testimony to the grand jury" as First Man in the White House in addition to repeatedly betraying his wife. Do you? I also do not trust a candidate that runs her campaign by trying to make her opponents look bad by distorting the truth. Why do you? Planting questions in an audience is most likely normal political practice. Hillary denied any foreknowledge that her staff did so. How did her answer sound to you? It sounded prepared and canned to me. If she had to answer the question of foreknowledge under oath what would her answer be?

In the movie, 'To Be or not To Be', Hitler sings in a burlesque - ' I want Peace. I want Peace. I want Peace. A Piece of Poland and a Piece of Czechoslovakia. And a Piece of ....."!
Great collection of qoutes! Another one: "Politicians are like diapers. They both need changing regularly and for the same reason." ~Author Unknown

Yes Harold I know the Ten Commandments. Old now, so could never recite them the way I was taught to do as a child. I can not read the original language they were chiseled in stone upon; and thinking about it, lying is covered earlier. No longer recall what promoted me to write this, except it disturbed me to watch Hillary lie and be believed. My grandchildren's future is a stake here, you see.

A lot of interesting Clinton quotes. Sure brings back memories. BTW, Will B - many citizens of Nazi Germany knew they were being manipulated and went along with it because they did not know to what ends but instead figured that the end (stability as it was lacking under Weimarer rule) justified the means (offering dictatorial rights to a chancellor).

Thanks for the quotes Alyce. Here is a quote to take to heart. It gets touted and posted but seldom read or adheared to. It doesn't get quoted. "Neither shall you bear false witness against your neighbor." Sound familiar? It's the 9th commandment! (or 8th).

Interesting, Alyce - you certainly seem to make your case. The best laid plans of mice and men (and women)... Please take a look at "John F. Kennedy, Robert F. Kennedy, Barack H. Obama and the Presidential Mantle - Camelot Revisited?" at http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/583261/john_f_kennedy_robert_f_kennedy_barack.html . What do you think? Michael

Thanks all for your comments. The government I was told is "of, for and by the people" so why do not, we, the people hold our elected officials to accountability for their actions and demand fair, impartial treatment and integrity? What kind of message is sent to the young with the role models we give them?

  • Donna Porter1/17/2008

    What Brian said..otherwise, good quotes.

Politicians are very good liar. I wouldn't be surprised if they lied under oath. Her answer also sounded prepared and canned to me; good to know that someone else feels this way. You did an excellent job on this article.

  • not your business1/17/2008

To answer your question, no I do not want a known liar in the White House, but us little guys have absolutely no say in our government. That is why I never bother to vote. At least my standing with God is in still good, assuring me a place in heaven when I am relieved of this hell on earth.

  • mwtsaginaw1/16/2008

Geez, Alyce, it's almost like you couldn't have done the article without the Clintons. But I know how you feel. My fave is still Bill's "It depends on what the meaning of 'is' is." -- Mike
