The Pueblo Chieftain suggests celebrating National Grouch Day by leaving your favorite grouch alone to wallow in his grouchiness.
Parenting Size Six suggests celebrating National Grouch Day by scowling at kittens, complaining about the sunshine, and barking "scram!" at anyone who innocently asks a simple question.
The Kansas City Public Library is sponsoring a National Grouch Day celebration on Friday, with "a salute to some of everyone's favorite grumps."
Lovingyou.com offers a selection of 4 grouch e-cards to choose from if you dare to recognize a grouch and risk his ingratitude on this momentous occasion.
I know the grouches of the world are going to hate me for this Big Birdesque suggestion, but why celebrate National Grouch Day in a manner that lauds and even encourages unpleasant behavior? Why not use National Grouch Day as a springboard for relief from the day to day grouchiness inherent in association with an entrenched grouch?
"Honey, you seem so grouchy today, let's go out to dinner..." Better yet, make it a movie. It is harder for a grouch to ruin a movie with negative prate since talking is verboten in theatres.
Or, how about plastering Oscar the Grouch stickers on everyone who acts grouchy on National Grouch Day, with the goal being to receive as few stickers as possible? Maybe this would give some clueless grouches insight into how their perpetual grouchiness affects those around them. Alternatively, paste a sunshine sticker or smiley on someone every time he makes a cheerful comment on National Grouch Day.
We all know that the national and world economies just tanked, that prices are skyrocketing, the war in Iraq is endless, the election presents 2 candidates who have by now, with the election but 3 weeks away, disenchanted most of the voting population... Do the grouches of the world really think we need their incessant reminders?
My own plan for National Grouch Day is to declare any space I inhabit today a grouch-free zone. Aren't all the grouches supposed to attending some National Grouch Day convention, anyway?

Post a CommentI find it's hard not have at least a little fondness for the Oscar the Grouches and Eeyores, you know? Cute article. :)
I ws miserable on National Grouch Day, but it was because of my neck problems. I picked the perfect day to be miserable! Oscar was always my favorite grouch. He's definitely lovable in his own miserable way. LOL
well I never knew about national grouch day but may so was so miserable I couldn't even talk to him, and he didn't know about it either, I wonder what it he would have done if he knew about it.
First "Talk Like a Pirate Day" and now this one; you're on a roll!! :)
Very cute article! I think we all have a little Grouch in us sometimes. I know I do!
I like the idea of leaving the Grouch alone- I'm already spending the other 364 days a year trying to appease him. Letting him have a day to himself is my idea of heaven!

Not to grouch or anything, but why is it that I am finding out after 8 p.m. that it was National Grouch Day?
