On Thanking God in America

The Shifting Sands of American Shores

Michele Starkey

For me, there is sadness in the midst of the celebrations this year as too many Americans are losing site of the blessings upon this great nation. We have turned a tide of forgetfulness towards our historic past. There is a Grinch-like aurora that has overwhelmed our nation.

We are rapidly approaching Christmas on the heels of leaving Thanksgiving in the dust and already the dust is kicking up over President Obama's address and the fact that he omitted giving thanks to the Almighty.

2 Chronicle 7:14

"If my people, which are called by my name, shall humble themselves, and pray, and seek my face, and turn from their wicked ways; then will I hear from heaven, and will forgive their sin, and will heal their land."

A recent Yahoo News report spoke about the criticism that President Obama received for not thanking God in his Thanksgiving address. You can read the Yahoo News article here.

If you missed President Obama's address, you can read it here.

And, if you are not familiar with President George Washington's first Thanksgiving Day Proclamation, you can read it here.

As for me and my house, we bow down and give thanks, not just on Thanksgiving or even just on Sundays but every day of the week.

Americans celebrated Thanksgiving and many gave thanks to the Almighty God whether their tables were bountiful or not. Christmas is more than a holiday, more than opening gifts, writing letters to Santa or lighting a tree. For me, it is a holy time of remembrance and a time of giving thanks that God came down to earth because He thought it was worth saving.

For that, I am thankful.

Merry Christmas, America.

Thanks for allowing me to share a piece of your home church on Yahoo. Sounds like an amazing place, however it would have to be for you to be so proud of it. God is on the move there that is for certain. Honored to have been able to research it and such awesome people they were.

You are a great role model here on Yahoo!! Appreciate you.

I'm waaaay behind on articles. I am making my way through yours, but might not comment on them all. I might just put a smiley face so you know I was there. :) By the way, I can't see any other comments until I comment. Another lovely glitch.
