On Thanksgiving Day

James R. Ford
On Thanksgiving Day
I wake and walk to the window
the sky is gray in an Autumn way
the tv's getting ready for a parade

The Macy's parade is on every year
it always starts with the Radio City Rockettes
then there's music, balloons,
more music, more balloons
then Santa Claus himself!

While the parade is on,
the smell of turkey fills the air
family and guests arrive and then the Lions
are playing football on the tv

The Thanksgiving dinner is the best meal of the year
with lots of turkey, cranberry sauce,
mashed potatoes, and lots of veggies

when dinner's over, it's time for pie
pumpkin, apple, or blueberry

the dinner has a strange effect on everyone
soon there are yawns and goodbyes
the sandman assaults the eyes
and a great day of feast, football, parade, and family
comes to an end.
