On the Value of Dreams

Anita Grace Simpson
As I descend the depths of pain and dying

And slowly sink into my last defeat

The outside world moves far away from me

Afraid of death, it hurries to retreat.

I hide inside a million story worlds

Where flowers bloom and no one ever dies

Those characters that seem so close to me

Though only pen and paper, only lies.

They stay with me through all my dark despair

When silence is my only other friend

Though friends and family fade, I still have peace

My dreams will be with me until the end.
