Even before conservative godhead Ronald Reagan set out to destroy unions and to ratchet up worker insecurity in America, right wing politicians joined their corporate sponsors in fighting against worker rights - especially when it comes to collective bargaining.
To the right, union representation is a sworn enemy. And they have drawn their line in the sand, courtesy of Teabagger money and billionaire sponsorship, in Wisconsin. A state with a strong labor tradition Wisconsin is even home to the only football team collectively owned and labor friendly, Superbowl Champion Green Bay Packers. The team even put out a statement in support of workers being targeted by the right.
Surely, many Wisconsin voters are coming to see the grave error they made in electing a Tea Party governor. Wisconsin governor Scott Walker is stepping up to the plate for the egregious fascist machine, seeking to end public sector unions. If allowed to win in Wisconsin, the march to madness will spread across the country.
On Saturday, Wisconsin teabaggers plan counter demonstrations to the pro-union folks, blissfully unaware of just how pathetic they seem. How many of the elderly baggers showing up have retirement pensions they are living on? How many rely on state workers in different aspects of their lives?
How many of the younger baggers are simply of the mindset saying "I can't have benefits and a living wage, so you can't either?" Just because union represented employees have been able to stand against the onslaught against workers over the past three decades, should other workers hate them>?
Shouldn't they instead want to join them? Want to get the kind of representation which will lead them to better wages and job protections?
People of Wisconsin, your time is now. Stand for working people! And at your next opportunity, address the mistakes you made in the last election, and return to your progressive tradition!
On Wisconsin workers!

When it comes to improving public understanding of tax policy, nothing has been more troubling than the deeply flawed coverage of the Wisconsin state employees' fight over collective bargaining.
Economic nonsense is being reported as fact in most of the news reports on the Wisconsin dispute, the product of a breakdown of skepticism among journalists multiplied by their lack of understanding of basic economic principles.
Gov. Scott Walker says he wants state workers covered by collective bargaining agreements to "contribute more" to their pension and health insurance plans.

I thought this was a joke when I first heard it. To quote Homer Simpson: This isn't America..it's not even Mexico!"
The rapid downward spiral spins faster and faster...
Jeff, Why should Tax Paid Government employees have “ Collective Bargaining†Are there still sweat shops for Government employees? Does the Government reject applicants due to race, or any other law. It’s time to shrink Government. There is no place OR need for collective bargaining for Tax Paid Government Employees. Time for the NEW “Shovel Ready†Idea - Its time to weed out the dead wood and save billions a year – No longer should it take “An act of GOD†to fire them. A Chris Christie / Walker President run would win – by 60% or More – You scared, you should be!!
This is just the beginning – Time for the Governor to announce, “ Applications for teaching positions are now being acceptedâ€. Watch the rats scatter. The taxpayer (yes, the majority of hard working American people) spoke in the last election!! Time to stop spending. Interesting, on Saturday the unions conceded to everything that the Governor wants except the collective bargaining. The Wis. House Dem’s will have no choice, but to return, vote, and face the defeat. What a bunch of lame chickens!! Bottom line – The Taxpayer T*T has run dry and Government Unions will now face massive cuts or face unemployment.
The protests in Wisconsin will probably spread. My Gov is putting on a tough show against the union and made massive cuts to school budget, while giving tax cuts to rich. Fight on unions, fight on. Will tweet
Hopefully mass demonstrations and nationwide strikes will be the response to this Corporate Tea Party racist crap.
I never worked a union job, but I - like just about all workers in the US - have benefitted from the changes that the unions brought to our culture. But, of course, those aren't benefits to the rich parasites that are the only people the Republicans care about.
80 years ago, my grandfather was a union organizer.
Unions are important.
