Once Again McDonald's Comes Through in This Dough Economy with a Dollar Menu for Breakfast.

I Think Burger King Did it First, but Its Always Who Does it Best

I have written a few articles now on various value menus that fast food restaurants are using to keep customers coming through the doors and keeping their profits in the black. Just about every fast food joint has some type menu these days with prices around $1. Because all of the various fast food restaurants had value menus for lunch and dinner breakfast was next. McDonald's and Burger King are the two fast food restaurants most know for breakfast since they are everywhere, but there are also other restaurants that sell breakfast like Jack in the box, but they are not as widespread as McDonald's or Burger King. It was only time before discounts would come with them for breakfast. The drop in prices in several of the key ingredients like meat, cheeses, and eggs made it cost effective. The companies also want to establish brand loyalty. Burger king came out last with a $1 double cheeseburger, so it was fitting that they did the breakfast value menu first. Not to be outdone McDonald's has done their own. While not as diverse as Burger King's, it is a great deal at a really good price.

The menu includes five items as of yet and is being reviewed for possible additions. Right now it includes the Sausage McMuffin, Sausage Biscuit, Breakfast Burrito, small coffee and hash brown. The Sausage McMuffin is a sausage patty with cheese on an English muffin. The Sausage Biscuit is just that. It is a piece of sausage on a biscuit. The hash browns and coffee are pretty self explanatory as well. The breakfast Burrito is my personal favorite on the menu. Here you get a small flour tortilla with scrambled eggs, cheese, crumbled sausage, peppers and onions. McDonalds has been selling these for years and I have always liked them. You can get a pretty good meal there like $3-4 on your way to work or school and this can be eaten on the run.

I think this is a pretty good deal as many places are still selling breakfast sandwiches for about $3 and more. McDonald's prices make it easy to get a good meal at a fair price. I would like to see a bit more variety on the menu like adding something with bacon on it. I also am greatly surprised that their Egg McMuffin was not placed on their breakfast value meal.
