Once Upon a Dream

Mary Morgan
She still couldn't shake the previous night's dream as she boarded the train. See Ann felt your dream has meaning. This time she couldn't quiet get the meaning. As she set there watching the world pass by through her window she thought about the dream trying to figure out what her mind was trying to tell her.

The dream started like any other dream she had before, in a misty haze she could see the train coming to a stop at the terminal. But this time something was different, the platform was empty no one was waiting to board the train. As she stepped off the train it began raining "wouldn't you know it you forgot your umbrella," she said to herself. She darted for the door of the station but it was locked.

Ann stood there waiting for the next train to take her on to her mothers' home in the country, when she heard foot steps approaching her. She looked around to see who it was but didn't see anyone but she knew she heard them. Finally a tall figure emerged for the fog.

She thought she knew him but couldn't place who he was. He came to a stop a few feet from where Ann was standing. She looked in his direction waiting for him to speak but nothing so she made the first attempt and said in her usual quiet voice "hello, Wet out today isn't it?"

"Yes it is" he replied. He went back to reading the paper he was carrying in his hand. Ann tried not to look in his direction but something about him made her. Finally after a few minutes she got enough nerve to ask "excuse me but I was wondering if I knew you form somewhere, are you from here?"

"No" he replied "I am from a small town just north of here. How about you, are you from around here?" He asked in a condescending voice, almost as if he really didn't want to know.

"Yes as a matter of fact I am" Ann replied in a snide voice. That's when she woke from the dream.

She was still confused when the train pulled into the station. But as she looked out the window she noticed the platform was empty just like in her dream. As she walked off the train it became eerie at how much like her dream it was. Then a sound she remembered from her dream came all too much real. Foot step, When she seen the man she had a catch in her throat. It was him the same man from her dream.

Thinking back she decided not to speak to him, she decided to wait and let him speak first. After a few minutes he did speak only to say a quick hello. Ann said "hello" he looked around as she spoke and looked her in the face. "Your Tom's little sister aren't you?" he said.

"Yes I am" she replied back. "Do I know you?"

"You should" he replied "I spent the better part of my teen years at your house"

"I'm sorry I can't seem to place you" she said "but then again it's been what ten years?"

"Yes it has" he said "I'm Mark me and Tom played football together in high school"

"Oh yes now I remember you, back then you use to tease me about my braces."

"I see now that I should have had my butt kicked." He said wishing he could go back and change the past. "If I knew what a knock out you would become I wouldn't have teased you so much"

"Apology accepted" She said blushing.

As they boarded the train they talked about the past and about where they are at now. When the train pulled into the station in May town the exchanged number and promised to keep in touch.

Ann doubted that he would keep her number she thought as soon as he was out of sight he would toss it. She walked on up the street to her mothers' house.

Later that night she heard a knock on the door, as she opened the door she was surprised to see Mark standing there with a smile on his face.

"I'm sorry to bother you but I wanted to ask if you would like to go to see a movie with me?" He asked.

"I would love to let me grab my jacked and we'll go" she said.

After that they were together none stop. And some time later she thought back to that dream, she realized that her dream was trying to tell her she would run into an old friend.
