One Associated Content Producer's Secret Weapon for Thinking of Article Topics

Lee Andrew Henderson
Anybody who frequents the Associated Content forums knows that there are constantly Content Producers looking for advise. One of the most common questions that Content Producers ask in the forum is, "How do you get your ideas for articles?"

This question is especially asked of those of us who write several articles every day. Since I sometimes write up to 8 - 10 articles a day I go through many articles in a day, week, and month. In the past year I've written nearly 800 articles.

In the Associated Content forums I've been generous enough to reveal some of my ideas for getting article topics. Now I'm going to reveal to you my secret weapon. Whenever I need a topic for an article and I'm completely stumped there is one place I go. Dogpile SearchSpy.

Dogpile Searchspy is a site to see a listing of topics that are searched for, a lot like Yahoo Buzz or Google Trends but with a lot more topics listed. Instead of just one page of listings the Dogpile Searchspy scrolls topic after topic after topic that somebody has searched for.

Dogpile Searchspy is a gold mine for ideas as you watch an infinite amount of topics scroll by. Just to demonstrate I'll stay on Dogpile Searchspy for the next five minutes and see what kind of ideas I come up with.

The first search that caught my eye was "Gall Bladder Attacks." Now if you do some research or consult a doctor maybe you can write a serious article about gall bladder attacks but I think this topic is screaming humor article.

Another good search was "Pet names in Italian." After searching for "Pet names in Italian" I came across a site that listed good male and female Italian names for your dog. If you're looking for a good name for your Italian dog here are a few ideas: Adriano, Baldassare, Fabrizio, Flavio, and Guido.

Thanks to somebody who searched for "Beyonce fall" I found a great video on YouTube.

The next search that caught my eye was "how can I become a porn star?" Unfortunately when I did my own search I didn't find any tips but if anybody on Associated Content were to write that article I would definitely read it, strictly for entertainment of course.

The search "How to make yourself virtually" didn't turn up any results but I did find a website where you can give yourself a virtual makeover. I'm sure there would be plenty of people interested in whether that site is good and if it is easy to navigate.

Possibly the most interesting search I saw was "How to escape quicksand?" I searched it myself and just got sidetracked for about 20 minutes trying to find out the best way to escape quicksand because you never know when you'll run into quicksand in Alabama.

I don't have any idea how to make an article out of this but "I'm stuck in the dern mud and need help" was any interesting topic that somebody searched for.

I'm afraid to tackle this topic so I'm not going to search for it but one person wanted to know "the hairiest woman in the world."

One person searched for "street fighting". After doing my own search on street fighting I found a book called "the Ultimate Guide To Fighting and Winning Street Fights." I am getting this now! And I'm not giving you a link because if I meet you in a street fight one day I want to win!

So as you can see it's quite easy to find a topic to write about. Just go to Dogpile SearchSpy and watch the possibilities scroll by.
