Game Background
According to the Author Comments, One Button Bob was inspired by other games for the Commodore 64 8-bit home computer, including Hunchback and Pitfall.
Gameplay
The objective of One Button Bob is to get through each level and the difficulties and obstacles that it presents by using only one button, namely the left mouse button. A touchpad can also be used, though this may make things a little more difficult.
To control Bob, simply click the left mouse button. How Bob will move and respond to the click of the left mouse button will depend on the level. In some levels, clicking the left mouse button will cause Bob to jump. In others, Bob will respond to a click of the left mouse button by running. Bob may also fire a weapon. In any case, you must figure out how Bob will respond to the click of the left mouse button. Once you have figured out how Bob will respond, you must then use this discovery to maneuver Bob through the level.
Each level presents its own difficulties and obstacles. In some, there will be moving enemies that Bob must avoid. In others, Bob must hop on to moving platforms to avoid falling into a pit of fatality.
If you fail to maneuver Bob safely through a level, you must start over on that same level. There is no life limit, so you may try as many times as you wish.
The only measure of performance is located at the top left hand corner of the screen and exists as the form of a number. This numerical value indicates how many clicks you have made. The fewer number of clicks it takes you to complete a level, the better. The total number of clicks it takes you to complete the game will determine how well you were able to complete the game.
You can toggle the game's music at the top right hand corner of the screen. You can also pause the game.
Game Review
One Button Bob, also known as The Adventures of One Button Bob, is a fun simple game that can be entertaining for gamers of any level. The simple game concept is welcoming, as it is balanced with a not as simple task of determining how Bob will respond to the click of the one button that is available for use. The music track was also a nice touch.
One Button Bob scores an 8/10 for a good level of entertainment.
