Who knew cake plates were so versatile? Here are six ways to decorate a clear glass cake plate for six different holidays.

Where Do I Get A Cake Plate? Clear glass cake plates are readily available at many discount chain stores, such as Walmart or Target. If you are looking for a thriftier variety, also consider searching antique and junk stores. The best variety for the most decorating bang is a clear glass version with a removable domed lid. However, other varieties will also work well. Any one of the projects listed below make a create centerpiece or mantle decoration.

Valentine's Day. Valentine's Day is a perfect time to create a lovely display using a cake plate. Lay a paper doily or two on the plate portion. Insert vintage or handmade Valentine cards standing up on top of the doilies. Sprinkle a bit of red or bright pink glitter over the cards. Secure the domed top of the cake plate. Tie red or pink ribbon around the base of the cake plate and secure in a bow.

St. Patrick's Day. Green is always the name of the game when it comes to St. Patrick's Day! Add an Irish flair to your cake plate display by placing a small piece of green or green print fabric on the inside of the plate. Find a small leprechaun statue or figurine at a local thrift store and set him on top of the fabric. Arrange bright green confetti or foil garland around the statue. Secure the lid. Wrap pale green wire trimmed ribbon around the base of the cake plate and secure in a bow.

Easter. Easter is another great way to use your cake plate decoration. Apply a small piece of flour sack cloth, cloth napkin, or pastel colored fabric scraps onto the cake plate. Place a small amount of fake grass into the center of the fabric. Arrange several decoupage and plaster decorated foam eggs. (Other types of decorated eggs can be used as well, if desired.) Tie a pastel colored bow around the base of the cake plate and secure the lid.

Fourth of July. Using your cake plate for a Fourth of July display is even easier than any other holiday. Purchase a bit of wire garland from a local dollar store. Choose patriotic colors such as red, silver, and blue. Add foiled confetti, as well. Arrange all pieces inside the cake plate on a white doily. Purchase patriotic themed ribbon and tie it around the base of the cake plate. Secure the domed top.

Halloween. The possibilities of a cake plate decoration for Halloween are quite extensive! Just about anything Halloween can be placed on top of a doily on the cake plate. Miniature pumpkins in orange or white work well. Add faux spiders or faux bugs, if desired. Small bendable skeleton figurines are also fun. Consider creepy body part items, such as faux eyeballs or faux severed fingers are also wickedly fun. For a really neat display, arrange several cake plates in various sizes with these items. As always, tie a black or orange bow around the base of the cake plat/e.

Christmas. The winter holiday season is another great time for your cake plate display. Wrap a few fake gifts in various types of glittery paper and bows. Place the mini-presents on a paper doily or vintage dish towel. Secure the top. If desired, add a bow to the base of the cake plate.
