as mother parked the car
the creek was to high to ford
so we made our way
up the steps and onto
the swinging foot bridge
we could hear the water rushing below
as mother towed us along
we walked softly
hoping the bridge would not swing
to the other side and down
the steps to the narrow dirt road
that led to our Grandparents house
to get our Christmas presents
the snow and moon
made the way bright
for us that night
A Christmas long ago
