One Cynic on Paris

One of the people that the media seem to like to mention, yet the normal people seem to hate is Paris Hilton the heiress airhead in line to inherit millions from the Hilton hotel business. So what is it about the "princess" who seems to live in a catacomb of vanity that has made her such a well known young woman?

Born in 1981 the oldest of 4 children, it's her grandfather Barron Hilton that is the key family figure as he's co-chairman of the Hilton Hotels and the man with the money that is at the centre of it all. Paris however would find fame of her own in recent years with varying degrees of embarrassment and shame on the family name. She would start by being a model based on her slender figure and her typical Barbie like face she would work with several leading company's in the early years of the 21^st century.

After a few years she would star alongside friend Nicole Ritchie in "The Simple Life" where most of her own fame was formed as the two rich socialites were filmed doing typical jobs trying to show they can. Often this was a farce aimed at teenage girls who like the similar sort of trash TV which seems to have flooded the air waves in recent years. This show ran from 2003-2007 and would help force Paris down our throats. It was on this that she built her name and appeal and it wasn't too much later that she was cameoing in movies such as Zoolander (Ben Stiller and Owen Wilson) and The Cat in The Hat.

In 2004 she released an album titled "Paris" which was released with her debut single "Star are Blind", to be totally honest it was more like "Stars are tone deaf" and despite reaching the top 10 in 17 separate countries it was more solid on her name than quality. The album it's self seemed to fail to live up to much in either quality or sales, thankfully there hasn't been a follow up.

She has also managed to release several books, including a best seller, though it was slated severely in the media as critics failed to see the charm of something that could well have been written by a 12 year princess wannabe. As was often the case the name "Paris Hilton" seemed to appeal and cause the product to sell while the actually quality was again terrible.

However despite her seeming success life in the media hasn't been easy for Paris all the time, most famously her 2004 sex tape (you all thought I'd forgotten?) was sold and became a relative smash despite lacking any real quality (and boys and girls, Paris doesn't have breasts, always a problem in porn). It featured her then boyfriend Rick Solomon being orally pleased mostly in "night vision" (why bother?) and was marketed as "One night in Paris" funnily poor Rick must have had short nights. Hilton had said "I mean I so didn't do it for attention.", a rather hard thing to believe as it was first leaked before "The Simple Life" was due to beginning.

Added to the shame of the sex tape was the repeated driving offences that ended up with her spending half of a 45 day sentence in prison. She seemed unable to keep her drinking out of a car, funny that she even needed to drive given the fact that she could easily have a chauffeur do that job and get as sloshed as she wanted. Despite a large petition to have her pardon common sense prevailed (a rarity in the world of celebrity) and she was made to serve 22 days in prison, in which she said she'd found god. It didn't seem to take her too long to lose god and forget she'd ever found him, perhaps there was some sort of hallucinogenic in the prison air.

Although she has appeared to be less prevalent in the media in the last 12 months it can only be time before she pops into the papers on a regular basis with a new little doggy in a hand bag like some form of fashion accessory. Perhaps next will come some sort new pet, a shark perhaps...in fact a shark could lead to a rather tasty story, though maybe there wouldn't be enough meat on it...
