One Fan's Review of Danny Boyle's Film: Slumdog Millionaire

Human Connections by DVD

Annamarie
I really had never heard of this film until a commerical came on the TV for the Academy Awards. I was immediately hooked with the beauty of colors, characters, country, customs, dialogue, and descriptors used by the creators of this picture. I called everyday to the local stores for information about its release date on DVD's. We purchased it the day it was available. I am so grateful for the commericals and the local Fox TV stations that promoted the Academy Awards that enlightened me about this human connecting film by Fox Searchlight. We always search for films to share with our grandchildren that we think will bring human connections to light.

As the movie started my grandson of 18, told us to "listen and watch carefully" to all details, sounds, and sights because if you blink you will miss an important part. He was absolutely correct! I think the speed of the events and outstanding splicing and cinematography is what kept our attention focused on everything at once. The natural interactions of the cast was splendidly intertwined throughout this film. We all held our breath, were silent as we watched it even ignoring the phones and pagers and shed a few tears as we made human connections with the characters. We understand more about their culture, every human's need and motivation, and how the smallest detail can lead to dreams like winning a million dollars or the trauma and joy climbing mountains of dread and the joy of just being human and surviving.

We will watch this film over and over to pick up the pieces of acting and reality that we missed as we wiped our tears, gasp, or shouted "You Did It Jamal Malik(Dev Patel)!! "You Did It"...for all of us!! We also loved the endling and the special features which helped us celebrate the joy and wonderment of this unique film.

We purchased this movie to share "movie night" with our grandson on his Spring Break. It opened communications with him about the differences in cultures and how human dignity, persistance, and will power can survive trauma in the most unusual ways.
