When I had previously looked at the "Index" section of the Associated Content Clout scale I had assumed that it referred to the number of page views I need to get. When I read the fine print I realized I was wrong!
The Index definition reads - "Total number of page views PLUS a 1% bonus for each published submission (max bonus = 200%). Example: A user with 5 published submissions and 6,000 total views has an index of 6,300 (6,000 views + 5% of 6,000), which translates to a Clout Level of 5."
The Associated Content Clout scale Index refers to the number of page views PLUS BONUS PERCENTAGES not just straight page views! The maximum bonus you can get is 200%, therefore, the most important articles you will ever write are your first 200!
Having 200 published articles will ensure that no matter how many page views you get you are multiplying them at the maximum rate which will ensure you reach a higher Associated Content Clout level super fast!
In order to illustrate this concept lets look at the following scenarios:
Mike has 36,000 page views and 20 published articles.
(36,000 x 1.20 = 43,200)
Mike is at Clout level 6.
Mary has 36,000 page views and 40 published articles.
(36,000 x 1.40 = 50,400)
Mary is at Clout level 7.
Both have the same amount of page views but Mary is being paid more for them!
By all accounts Mary's articles were probably of lesser quality than Mike's since she had to write twice as many to get the same page views yet she is actually making more money because she has more articles - not because she has more page views! It is possible to get paid more but have the same number of page views simply by publishing more articles!
Your first 200 articles do not have to be mind-shattering, in-depth pieces. Of-course, quality writing is important if you want to get any page views at all - but actually writing those first 200 articles is more important than laboring over what you will write.
If you spend three hours a day for the next 2 weeks writing 3 small articles per hour each day you will have 126 new articles!
If you spend three hours a day for the next 4 weeks writing 2 small articles per hour each day you will have 168 new articles!
If you spend three hours a day for the next 6 weeks writing 2 small articles per hour each day you will have 252 new articles!
Even if you have to spend 2 hours a day for the next 13 weeks (4 months) writing 1 small articles per hour each day you will have 182 new articles!
No matter how you break it down it is more important to get it done, and get it done as fast as possible, than it is to write perfect pieces. After you get your first 200 published articles under your belt you will make sure you maximize the payout on any high page view articles you get published in the future. Make those page views count for all you can! Publish your first 200 articles as fast as you can!

Post a CommentThanks Colleen! All this time I thought the clout score was simply based on PVs. Thanks so much for writing this up.
Makes sense to me. Thanks for the tip.
Thanks for clearing up the clout level scale. I was a little confused myself on the "index" part of it. Now I am going to try even harder to get to 200 articles efficiently. :)
