Honestly, I think that people should find better things to do with their time rather than stir up controversy over something which can easily be solved. If you do not think that the phrase "one nation under God" should be included in the pledge, don't say it. It's not any more complicated than that. No one is forced to say this phrase, no one is forced to say the pledge at all. If you find this offensive, don't say it, but don't ruin it for the people who do not feel the same way you do. It is not so offensive that this phrase has to be taken out of the pledge. Even if you were to take this phrase out of the pledge, so many people would be angered, that it really would not be worth it. There is no way to please everyone.
What I have trouble believing is how this got to be so out of control. For hundreds of years people said this pledge without any problems, but leave it up to today's society to find something wrong with something that went without any problems for so long. I really don't understand why people have to find something wrong with absolutely everything. No matter what, it will offend someone.
It is perfectly fine if you do not believe in God and do not wish to include that word in your morning routine, that is your right. It is also the right of all the people who do believe in God to recite the pledge, as is, every morning.
The fact that the word "God" is included in the American pledge of allegiance does not at all impose religion on any person. The pledge has been this way for a very long time and should not be altered just to satisfy people who are looking for a reason to be angry.
Why does everything have to be so complicated? Not everything has an ulterior motive. Some things just are the way they are simply because they have always been that way. Some things need to be changed because they have proven to be flawed over time, but this is not one of them. The American pledge should be left alone and people who do not think that the word "God" should be removed from the pledge should simply leave out that part when reciting the pledge, or not say it at all . It's really quite a simple problem to solve.

Post a CommentGreat article!!!!
Great article. The words "one nation under God" were added to the Pledge to make the statement that we are NOT a communist country. That was the priority of the nation at the time of the change. Today's priority, however, is inividualism and that does not jive well with submitting to a Supreme Being.
Super article!
Correction, the pledge did not appear until 1892.
Very good article. If our forefathers wanted that in our pledge, who are we to change it?
Good points. I don't understand why people want to change something that's been working fine for all this time either.
Great article. We are the United State of the Offended. Sensible rationalization doesn't enter into our minds.
Good article but you know that humans seem to be the only species on the earth that want controversy that seems to be what we all live for simple is not in our nature.
