The president-elect joked that his middle name "Hussein" was given to him by someone who never thought he'd run for president. Well, no one knew 46 years ago that Saddam Hussein would become a turn-coat ex-puppet for the US that would have to be silenced. And what about all those children named Osama long before Bin Laden made the news?
Even so, after 9-11 when so many Muslim parents wanted to continue to name their children, Osama, most Arab countries declared a moratorium on the name citing unwanted problems and undue attention FOR THE CHILDREN later.
So come back across the pond where freedom of speech and stupidity are all the rage and as long as you're only psychologically damaging your offspring you're okay. And so Adolph Hitler Campbell finally got his birthday with his name on it. ADOLPH'S CAKE Now his parents who name their children after such historical greats as Heinrich Himler or after movements like Aryan Nation insist that despite the Nazi paraphenalia throughout their home, they are not racist. Yup, uh huh. And I bet they want us to think that they're not idiots either. However that isn't working for me as a viable premise.
Even so, this is the United States and we have the inalienable right to be as ignorant as we want to be. And if that means getting a birthday cake for our kids, then we should be able to do that too. Now while I don't think I'd name my child something that would make future employment all but nonexistant, I respect any parents right to do so. I just hope they hit the lottery or find some way to pay for all the therapy that these poor children will need. And we know they will need alot. They can't help where and how they're being raised.
Here is what makes this situation sad, no downright pathetic. If anyone of us reasonably normal parents, denied our teens the right to dye her/his hair striped blue and purple or to expand his earlobes until they reached his navel or pierce any part of his/her body that he wanted, then we would be considered emotionally abusive, the child abuse authorities would swoop down upon us like a plaque of locusts and we would be plastered all over the news and we would be judged like Nancy Grace judging OJ. But let me name my baby Diamonetta, or Hitler or Chambriadenaladra, or Aryan Nation, or Osama, or Jesus or Mary and that's okay. That's perfectly fine with this country. What is wrong with us?
The bottom line is this: baby Hitler has a right to have a birthday cake. Baby Osama has a right to have his name if that's what his parents want to name him. We have this tricky little document that we like to follow sometimes in this country. It's called the Constitution. With it comes certain rights. What we like to do is pick and choose who gets to utilize those rights.
We have to constantly remind ourselves that these rights are for all of us. As our president-elect has stated: this is not a black America or a white America, a Christian, Jewish or Muslim America. This is not a gay or straight America. This is and has always been and will always be the UNITED STATES OF AMERICA.
Now, I may not agree with someone stupidly naming their child Hitler or Osama or whatever is our right, but they still have a right to have a birthday cake, to attend public school, be homeschool, to attend those wacked out churches, to be taught those hate-filled beliefs. When they are adults, it will be our job as a society to help them understand that their parents were wrong. Now is not the time. For now let's just let Adolph eat his cake.
Ironic thought: I wonder if it's chocolate!
